STV’s Buildings Division is seeking an Energy Modeling Specialist/Engineer, preferably with a mechanical engineering background, to join our New York City office. This role is ideal for an experienced engineer with strong energy modeling capabilities, project leadership experience, and the ability to collaborate effectively with multidisciplinary teams, clients, and mentor junior technical staff. The successful candidate will support HVAC design calculations, whole-building energy modeling, energy code compliance, and sustainable building design. This individual will provide technical leadership, guide project teams, and deliver high-quality energy simulation and compliance solutions. Key Responsibilities Lead energy modeling strategies and deliver advanced whole building simulations and HVAC system analyses using IES VE and other applicable tools. Develop proposed and baseline energy models in accordance with applicable codes, standards, and project requirements. Work directly with the mechanical and architectural teams to develop simple analysis models to inform early design choices. Coordinate with multidisciplinary teams to deliver high quality, energy-efficient solutions that meet client and project requirements. Support project leadership activities, including scope development, scheduling, budgeting, resource planning, and quality control. Optimize building energy performance by evaluating energy conservation measures and performing life cycle cost analyses. Verify compliance with applicable energy codes, local laws, ASHRAE requirements, and LEED standards. Review model inputs, assumptions, methodologies, and results to ensure technical accuracy and consistency. Prepare technical reports, modeling narratives, compliance documentation, calculation packages, and presentations. Communicate technical findings to clients, agencies, and project stakeholders while supporting client relationships. Provide technical leadership, mentor junior staff, and remain current with evolving building technologies, codes, electrification, decarbonization strategies, and industry best practices. Required Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering from an accredited institution. Active Professional Engineer (PE) license in Mechanical Engineering is strongly desired. Building Energy Modeling Professional (BEMP) certification is preferred. Seven years of relevant energy modeling experience with commercial, industrial, municipal, institutional, or government facilities. Proficiency with IES VE. Experience developing proposed and baseline models for ASHRAE 90.1, LEED, and other applicable compliance requirements. Ability to perform whole building energy simulations, daylighting and thermal comfort analyses, and ventilation and airflow studies. Strong knowledge of HVAC system design, load calculations, system selection, equipment sizing, psychrometrics, heat transfer, and building-envelope performance. Working knowledge of ASHRAE standards, building and mechanical codes, energy codes, and applicable local and state requirements. Ability to interpret technical drawings and specifications and prepare clear reports, calculations, modeling narratives, and compliance documentation. Strong leadership, analytical, problem solving, project management, communication, and multidisciplinary coordination skills. Proficiency with Microsoft Word and Excel. Knowledge of computational fluid dynamics and experience with ANSYS Fluent is a plus.
