Director of Technology.

FULL TIMEREMOTELEADERSHIP$140K–160K/YR

This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Director of Technology based in the United States.

We are seeking a hands-on Director of Technology to lead the development, evolution, and strategic direction of digital platforms for an internationally focused nonprofit organization. This role combines technical leadership with practical software development, offering the opportunity to build solutions that directly support an important global mission. You will oversee platform architecture, develop new features, strengthen data capabilities, and identify opportunities to integrate AI and machine learning into organizational operations. Working closely with a geographically distributed team, you will ensure that technology effectively serves staff, donors, and other key stakeholders. You will also guide a small technical team and external consulting resources while remaining actively involved in engineering. This is a fully remote leadership opportunity for a technology professional motivated by meaningful impact.

Accountabilities

As Director of Technology, you will take ownership of the organization's technology ecosystem, balancing hands-on development with strategic oversight and team leadership. Your responsibilities will include:

    • Own the health, performance, architecture, and ongoing development of digital platforms.

    • Maintain existing applications and build new features using PHP, React, JavaScript, and WordPress.

    • Ensure technology solutions effectively support organizational operations, mission delivery, and the needs of internal and external stakeholders.

    • Lead the development and management of the organization's data architecture.

    • Transform organizational data into meaningful, accessible information that supports decision-making for staff, donors, and other stakeholders.

    • Identify and implement opportunities to integrate artificial intelligence and machine learning in ways that advance the organization's mission.

    • Oversee and coordinate the work of the Salesforce consultant and full-stack engineer.

    • Provide technical guidance, mentorship, and leadership to direct reports and external technology resources.

    • Collaborate with geographically distributed teams to understand technology needs and deliver effective solutions.

    • Continuously assess existing platforms and identify opportunities to improve functionality, scalability, and overall performance.

    • Requirements

The ideal candidate is an experienced software development professional who combines strong technical expertise with leadership capabilities and a commitment to using technology for meaningful organizational impact. Candidates should demonstrate:

      • At least 6 years of relevant software development experience, including experience leading teams or technical projects.

      • A bachelor's degree is preferred.

      • Strong hands-on experience with PHP, JavaScript, and React.

      • Experience working with WordPress and Salesforce is an advantage.

      • Demonstrated experience implementing AI and machine learning solutions in production environments.

      • Experience designing, maintaining, and improving digital platforms and data architectures.

      • The ability to translate technical and data requirements into practical solutions that serve different organizational stakeholders.

      • Strong technical leadership, problem-solving, and communication skills.

      • The ability to manage and guide technical professionals, consultants, and external resources.

      • Comfort working independently and collaboratively in a fully remote environment with geographically dispersed teams.

      • Experience in a nonprofit, international development, or Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene (WASH) organization is a plus.

      • Benefits

        • Annual salary of $140,000–$160,000, with potential flexibility based on experience.

        • 100% employer-paid health, vision, and dental insurance premiums.

        • 401(k) retirement plan with a 5% employer match.

        • Unlimited paid time off (PTO).

        • Flexible working environment.

        • Fully remote position available anywhere in the United States.

        • Opportunity to apply technology, data, and AI to support an internationally focused nonprofit mission.
