Graduate Mechanical Engineer.

FULL TIMEJUNIOR LEVELENGINEERING
We’re looking for enthusiastic emerging Mechanical Engineers with a passion for Maritime. Step into your career with hands-on projects, supportive mentors, and a team ready to help you grow right from day one.

Kick-start your engineering career on projects that power Australia’s future. Dive into cutting-edge Maritime and Defence work that keeps our nation’s assets safe, efficient and mission ready.

Our Maritime Design and Engineering team draws on the combined strength of more than 40 years of experience across Naval Architecture, Mechanical, Electrical, and Combat Systems/C4I Engineering to meet growing industry demand.

Recent Mechanical Engineering graduates and early-career engineers (1–2 years’ experience) are encouraged to apply.
You’ll be working on a diverse range of exciting projects, in support of a wide range of Australian and regional maritime programs, both for new construction (such as the current Royal Australian Navy surface ship programs) and for sustaining and upgrading current ships of the RAN Fleet and for regional Navies.

More specifically you will:
  • Perform specialist mechanical design and engineering in support of the integration of equipment and systems on naval vessels.
  • Provide mechanical engineering support and guidance within whole of ship design teams involving all technical disciplines of Naval Architecture, Electrical, Mechanical and Combat Systems integration.
  • Undertake engineering projects from engineering investigations, through design concepts and Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) interaction, all the way through preliminary and detail design to production implementation and customer acceptance; and
  • Represent the company on a professional and technical basis with our Defence/Navy clients, with our customers within the defence Industry and with the broader Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) and system supplier community.
To be successful, you will need the following skills and attributes:
  • A degree in Mechanical Engineering.
  • Knowledge of designing mechanical and marine components and systems.
  • Excellent written communication and interpersonal abilities.
  • Well-developed problem diagnosis and solving skills.
  • Effective time management skills and strong attention to detail; and
  • The motivation and drive to develop your technical capabilities within a highly supportive, multi-discipline engineering environment.
Due to the nature of the work, you must be an Australian Citizen to be eligible for an Australian Defence Security Clearance.  The selection process for this role will include pre-employment screening including a Police Records Check.
At BMT, we value flexibility, career growth, and an inclusive culture where diverse perspectives thrive.
  • Enjoy all of our benefits, including hybrid working, where you can work flexibly from our Melbourne CBD based engineering office and from home.  In addition, we offer a fortnightly Rostered Day Off (RDO) and we’re proudly ‘flexified’ with Flexa!
  • Our industry competitive benefits include a competitive salary offering, performance bonuses, and companywide bonuses as part of being an employee benefits trust.
  • Defence Reserve Leave enabling defence reservist employees to undertake ADF obligations without financial disadvantage.
  • 24/7 Employee Assistance Program (EAP).
  • We invest in learning and development to help you grow, tailored to you as an individual.

Diversity, equity, and inclusion are at our core. We foster a workplace where everyone feels valued and supported, promoting innovation, collaboration, and respect.

Our values—Trust, Innovation, Passion, Respect, and Collaboration—define who we are and how we work.
