Seeley Lake

Senior Carpenter Site Lead.

FULL TIMESENIOR LEVEL

Job description

We are hiring an experienced Residential Carpenter for a long-term construction opportunity in Western Montana.

This role is ideal for someone who has spent years working with logs, heavy timber, timber framing, and custom residential construction and is comfortable taking ownership of both the work and the crew.

This is a hands-on leadership role. You will be expected to lead from the field, work directly from plans, solve construction challenges, maintain quality standards, and step in personally on complex carpentry work when needed.

What You’ll Be Doing

  • Lead daily carpentry activities and help organize crew priorities
  • Perform and oversee structural framing, rough carpentry, and finish carpentry
  • Work with logs, dimensional timber, heavy timber, and specialty wood materials
  • Read architectural and structural plans and translate them into field execution
  • Complete accurate layout, measurements, cuts, fitting, and assembly
  • Coordinate carpentry work with subcontractors and other trades
  • Identify field conflicts and resolve construction issues before they impact the work
  • Review completed work for quality, accuracy, and craftsmanship
  • Assist with material planning, takeoffs, ordering, and staging
  • Maintain a clean, safe, and productive job site
  • Provide clear direction to the crew while remaining actively involved in the work

Candidates must have:

  • 10+ years of professional residential carpentry experience
  • Strong experience in custom construction
  • Direct hands-on experience with log construction, heavy timber, or timber-frame construction
  • Previous experience leading or supervising carpenters
  • Advanced framing skills
  • Strong rough and finish carpentry experience
  • Ability to read and work from architectural and structural drawings
  • Ability to perform accurate construction layout
  • Strong understanding of residential construction methods and sequencing
  • Ability to troubleshoot construction issues independently
  • Experience coordinating with other trades
  • Strong knowledge of carpentry tools and equipment
  • High standards for quality, accuracy, and finish
  • Ability to remain hands-on while leading others
  • Valid driver’s license
  • Willingness to relocate to Western Montana

We are especially interested in candidates with experience in:

  • Log home construction
  • Log scribing
  • Log notching
  • Full-scribe or hand-scribed construction
  • Timber framing
  • Heavy timber construction
  • Post-and-beam construction
  • Timber joinery
  • Mortise-and-tenon connections
  • Dovetail joinery
  • Saddle notch
  • Swedish cope
  • Timber fitting
  • Log stacking
  • Lodge or mountain-home construction
  • Custom millwork or cabinetry
  • High-end finish carpentry

You do not need experience with every technique listed above, but direct experience with logs, heavy timber, or timber-frame construction is required.

The right person will be able to:

  • Look ahead and understand what the crew needs next
  • Recognize when something in the field does not match the plans
  • Solve problems without waiting for constant direction
  • Maintain high standards for craftsmanship and productivity
  • Lead others while still contributing directly to the work
  • Take ownership of quality, organization, and follow-through

Benefits:

  • 401(k)
  • Dental insurance
  • Health insurance
  • Paid time off
  • Relocation assistance

Application Question(s)
