Libertyglobal

LG UK London (40 hours per week), United Kingdom

VP Strategy, Live & Sports.

LEADERSHIP
Help shape the next chapter of Liberty Global's investment strategy. Sports and live is a strategic priority for Liberty Global and an area where we intend to invest more of our capital and time. Our ambition spans the wider experience economy, from leagues and teams through to ticketing, sponsorship, events and digital fan acquisition, with a focus on compelling European and global opportunities. Following our investment in Formula E, where Liberty Global acquired a controlling 65% stake in 2024, we're looking for an exceptional leader who can bring together deep strategic thinking, financial rigour and real-world experience of sports and live. What you’ll do You'll play a central role in identifying, evaluating and advancing high-impact investment and partnership opportunities across sports, live events and the broader experience economy. · Explore sports and live sectors to identify attractive markets, business models and potential investment opportunities. · Build and manage a strong pipeline of acquisitions, investments and strategic partnerships alongside our business development teams. · Develop compelling investment cases, combining sector insight with rigorous financial analysis and modelling. · Lead diligence on potential targets, getting underneath business plans, commercial models and the opportunities for Liberty Global to create value. · Bring practical experience of sponsorship, ticketing, events and fan growth into our investment thinking. · Make clear, evidence-led recommendations to senior decision-makers. · Partner with colleagues across M&A, business development, technology and finance, as well as our operating companies. · Work with portfolio businesses, including Formula E, on value creation, commercial partnerships and growth opportunities. · Support sports priorities across our operating companies, including the Ziggo Sport proposition in the Netherlands. · Lead project teams and, as our portfolio develops, potentially represent Liberty Global as an observer or Board member within portfolio companies. What we’re looking for This isn't purely a strategy role, and it isn't purely an investment role. We're looking for someone who combines strategic and financial capability with genuine, lived experience of how sports, live events or the wider experience economy works. · A strong strategic mindset, backed by excellent analytical and financial modelling skills. · Direct experience within sports, live events or the wider experience economy. · A strong understanding of the commercial and operational models that drive value within these sectors. · An established ability to build and maintain relationships across the industry. · Experience within, or working closely with, digital or high-growth businesses. · The credibility to distil complex questions into clear recommendations for senior stakeholders. · The ability to operate effectively across M&A, business development, technology and finance and to lead teams both directly and indirectly. Experience of acquisitions, investments or strategic partnerships would be particularly valuable, as would experience across portfolio businesses, technology and digital platforms, or driving fan and consumer growth in newer markets. Why Liberty Global? Liberty Global is a team of operators and investors focused on generating and delivering value through the strategic management of our platforms across telecom, growth investments and services. We operate across Europe and beyond, connecting people through technology, content and next-generation services. Our portfolio includes Telenet and Virgin Media Ireland, joint venture interests in VodafoneZiggo and Virgin Media O2, and investments across media and content, data centres, technology and sports. Through Liberty Growth, we hold a portfolio of approximately $3.4 billion, including stakes in ITV, Lionsgate and TelevisaUnivision. This role offers the opportunity to sit at the intersection of strategy, investment and sport, working on opportunities that could help define an important area of Liberty Global's future portfolio. WHERE YOU’LL WORK The role is based in London and requires the successful candidate to be located in London, with an expectation of working from the London office four days per week. Interested? Liberty Global has retained Excel Search & Advisory to lead this search. Candidates should contact Excel Search & Advisory directly rather than Liberty Global.
