SPECIFIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Performs administrative duties using the computer and telephone; handles correspondence and memorandums; orders necessary supplies each week; and completes weekly work schedules. Ensures inspections and spot checks of safety and security functions; makes sure personnel follow protocols. Performs other duties as assigned. MINIMUM EDUCATION AND TRAINING VOCATIONAL/EDUCATIONAL PREPARATION: . Requires an associate’s degree, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience. A minimum of seven (7) years of experience within a correctional environment is required, including at least three to five (3-5) years in a leadership or managerial capacity as a lieutenant or higher, overseeing a detainee population of two hundred (500) or more. Experience working in a detention facility is required. SPECIAL CERTIFICATIONS AND LICENSES: Must possess and maintain Jail Officer and Jail Management certification from the S.C. Criminal Justice Academy. Must possess a valid state driver’s license. Must meet other requirements as set forth in applicable South Carolina statutes and regulations. Must possess or be able to obtain a national certification from ACA, AJA, NSA, or NIJO within one (1) year of hire. NCIC certification desired. Mathematical Requirements: Requires using addition and subtraction, multiplication and division, and/or calculating ratios, rates and percentages. Language Requirements: Requires reading technical instructions, procedures, manuals and charts to solve practical problems; composing routine reports and specialized reports, forms and business letters with proper format; speaking compound sentences using normal grammar and word form. Mental Requirements: Requires doing clerical, manual or technical tasks requiring a wide range of procedures and requiring intensive understanding of a restricted field or complete familiarity with the functions of a unit or small division of an operating agency; requires normal attention with short periods of concentration for accurate results or occasional exposure to unusual pressure. Judgments and Decisions: Responsible for guiding others, requiring frequent decisions affecting co-workers and others who depend on the service or product; works in a fluid environment with rules and procedures but with many variations from the routine.
