Your day to day As a SQL Server Database Admin, you will be responsible for ensuring that BMG's database platforms are secure, reliable, performant, resilient and efficiently operated throughout their lifecycle. You will combine hands-on database expertise with automation, engineering practices and close collaboration with development and infrastructure teams to keep our critical data services stable today while continuously improving how we operate them. Database Engineering & Lifecycle Management Own SQL Server environments end to end, covering installation, configuration, patching, upgrades, monitoring, troubleshooting and lifecycle management. Ensure database reliability and performance through proactive monitoring, capacity management, query optimisation and performance tuning. Manage database changes safely, ensuring schema, configuration and release changes are controlled, traceable and repeatable. Provide database expertise to engineering teams, supporting SQL design, performance, deployments and resolution of complex production issues. Production Ownership ("You Build It, You Run It") Take ownership of services throughout their entire lifecycle, from development to production operations. Monitor server health, investigate incidents, troubleshoot production issues, and lead root cause analysis activities. Improve observability, alerting, reliability, and operational resilience of your services. Participate in on-call and production support rotations where required. Continuously reduce operational overhead through automation and self-healing capabilities. Automation, AI & Engineering Productivity Automate database operations and deployments using scripting, standardization and Azure DevOps Pipelines to reduce manual effort and operational risk. Embed database changes into CI/CD, enabling controlled, repeatable and auditable deployments alongside application releases. Apply AI-assisted engineering responsibly to accelerate troubleshooting, scripting, query analysis and documentation while respecting security and data-handling requirements. Improve developer and DBA productivity through reusable automation, tooling, monitoring and observability. Risk, Governance & Resilience Keep database environments secure and compliant through appropriate access controls, patching, encryption and secure configuration. Ensure resilience and recoverability through effective backup, restore, recovery and capacity-management practices. Maintain auditable database operations, providing documentation and evidence for IT controls, audits and risk assessments. Proactively address technology risks, including vulnerabilities, lifecycle risks, technical debt and resilience gaps. Collaboration & Engineering Enablement Partner with engineering, infrastructure, architecture and security teams to deliver scalable, reliable and maintainable database solutions. Enable development teams with DBA expertise, standards and practical guidance on SQL, performance, deployments and operational readiness. Provide database expertise during incidents and complex changes, driving root-cause analysis and sustainable solutions. Share knowledge and reusable practices, reducing key-person dependencies and strengthening collective ownership. Continuous Improvement & Knowledge Continuously improve database operations, simplifying processes and engineering out repetitive work and recurring issues. Turn incidents and operational insights into lasting improvements across automation, monitoring, standards and resilience. Maintain clear and practical technical documentation for operations, recovery, deployment and troubleshooting. Stay current with SQL Server, automation, DevOps and AI-assisted engineering, adopting capabilities that improve reliability, security and productivity. You will be successful when: Database services are reliable and resilient, delivering predictable performance, strong availability, effective monitoring and proven recovery capabilities. Automation and AI improve engineering productivity, reducing repetitive work, accelerating troubleshooting and enabling standardized, repeatable database operations and deployments. Changes are delivered safely and efficiently, with CI/CD, appropriate controls and effective rollback and recovery practices enabling faster delivery without compromising stability. Risk and technical health are proactively managed, with security vulnerabilities, lifecycle risks, technical debt and control gaps identified early and sustainably addressed. You are recognized as an engineering partner, not only as an operational DBA, helping teams make better decisions around data, performance, reliability, security and maintainability. You take ownership beyond engineering, understanding both the technology and the treasury business processes that BMG supports. What you’ll bring to the team Experience: 8+ years of experience as a SQL database admin Tech stack/ knowledge: Mandatory: Strong experience with database administration in Microsoft SQL Server and ability to fine tune database models and data intensive operations Strong experience with implementing high-availability DB environments (like MS SQL Server Always-On) Solid hands-on proficiency in T-SQL, including the ability to independently write, analyze, and optimize queries and stored procedures, interpret execution plans, and troubleshoot query performance issues Strong knowledge of scripting and automation using PowerShell Good knowledge of source control, CI/CD and documentation tools (Azure DevOps, Git, Confluence) and ability to define CI/CD pipelines and manage DevOps related activities during software development lifecycle Experience with scheduling tools and related concepts Experience with exposing meaningful metrics to have proper monitoring and alerting using tools like Grafana, Prometheus Ability to perform database profiling to better understand and fine tune the DB engine Strong analytical skills, proactivity, and ability to work in a cross-border international team Ability to think critically, take initiative and act as a problem solver Proven experience in a DevOps team (owning, implementing, and managing applications in scope Excellent Stakeholder Management skills Strong interpersonal and written and verbal communication skills Nice to have: Familiarity with Elastic stack and how to query logs Experience or affinity with IT Security concepts Foreign languages: English (advanced) Education: Completed Education at Bachelor/Master level with a strong analytical background, in Computer Science, Cybernetics, Software Engineering, Financial Engineering or equivalent If you want to deep dive into the processing of personal data conducted by ING Hubs Romania during the recruitment process and your rights related to it, read the privacy notices on our website (make sure to scroll until you reach the Data Protection section/ Candidates tab).
