Senior Analyst, Medico-Legal Estimates.

FULL TIMEREMOTESENIOR LEVELFINANCE & LEGAL

This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Senior Analyst, Medico-Legal Estimates based in Canada.

This is an opportunity to contribute to the financial oversight and risk management of a complex medico-legal environment. As Senior Analyst, Medico-Legal Estimates, you will develop and refine projections of future costs associated with medico-legal cases, helping the organization make informed financial and operational decisions. You will work with detailed case-level information, historical data, predictive analytics, and insights from legal and internal stakeholders to assess financial exposure and identify emerging cost drivers. The role combines litigation knowledge, financial analysis, and data-driven forecasting to strengthen the accuracy and consistency of estimates. You will also translate complex findings into practical recommendations and reporting for senior leaders and committees. This position offers the opportunity to improve analytical methodologies, support strategic planning, and contribute to continuous improvement across a collaborative team.

Accountabilities:

    • Develop and maintain cost estimates: Prepare and update projections of future medico-legal expenses, incorporating new case information and ensuring estimates reflect current circumstances.

    • Monitor actual costs and investigate variances: Compare incurred expenses with expected costs and work with legal defence counsel firms and internal stakeholders to understand significant differences.

    • Identify cases requiring additional review: Recognize matters that may need enhanced assessment and recommend estimate adjustments or actions to address emerging risks.

    • Provide subject matter expertise: Share analytical insights on cost trends, estimation methodologies, key drivers, and potential financial exposure.

    • Collaborate with stakeholders: Work closely with medico-legal services teams, legal defence counsel firms, and other partners to improve the accuracy and consistency of estimates.

    • Enhance predictive models: Support the development, testing, validation, and refinement of predictive models and forecasting methodologies for medico-legal costs.

    • Analyze complex data: Explore case and financial datasets to identify meaningful trends, key metrics, performance indicators, and opportunities for improvement.

    • Translate analysis into recommendations: Present complex findings in clear, concise, and actionable formats for internal and external stakeholders.

    • Prepare management reporting: Develop reports, analyses, and presentations for executive leadership and council committees to support decision-making, risk assessment, and financial planning.

    • Support actuarial processes: Provide case estimate analyses and supporting information for actuarial valuations and forecasting activities.

    • Improve analytical capabilities: Identify opportunities to enhance reporting, data utilization, automation, and the use of emerging technologies.

    • Maintain data integrity: Support data quality, governance, confidentiality, and information management practices.

    • Contribute to strategic initiatives: Respond to ad hoc analytical requests from the Manager and CFO, support broader business priorities, and promote collaboration, innovation, and knowledge sharing.

    • Requirements:

      • Education: A four-year university degree in Business, Economics, Statistics, Data Analytics, Mathematics, Law, Finance, or a related discipline.

      • Relevant professional experience: At least seven years of direct experience in litigation case handling, case oversight, legal case management, liability insurance claims, or a related field.

      • Litigation assessment expertise: Demonstrated experience reviewing complex litigation matters and evaluating liability, damages, litigation strategy, settlement potential, compensation exposure, legal cost risks, and factors that may materially affect case outcomes.

      • Financial and case analysis: Experience interpreting financial and case-related documentation to assess case characteristics, estimate future costs, and support informed decisions.

      • Financial forecasting and business intelligence: Practical experience in financial analysis, forecasting, and business intelligence.

      • AI-enabled tools: Experience working with AI-enabled analytical tools is required.

      • Legal stakeholder collaboration: Ability to work effectively with legal defence counsel firms and internal stakeholders to understand litigation strategy, identify cost drivers, and support case management and legal spend oversight.

      • Advanced data analysis: Demonstrated experience working with large, complex datasets, conducting detailed analysis, and translating findings into actionable business insights.

      • Executive-level reporting: Experience preparing reports, presentations, dashboards, and analyses for senior and executive leadership, as well as diverse stakeholder groups.

      • Technology and process improvement: Interest and experience in using technology, automation, and information systems to improve analytical capabilities, forecast accuracy, and operational effectiveness.

      • Reporting tools: Knowledge of IBM Cognos Analytics or experience using query functions and reporting tools.

      • Predictive analytics: Experience with predictive analytics, machine learning concepts, or advanced forecasting techniques is considered an asset.

      • Business acumen: Ability to understand broader organizational priorities and connect analytical findings to business implications.

      • Critical thinking and judgment: Strong analytical, conceptual, and strategic thinking skills, including the ability to assess risk, materiality, interdependencies, and financial impact.

      • Communication and influence: Strong written, verbal, negotiation, listening, and presentation skills in English, with the ability to challenge constructively and influence business decisions.

      • Problem-solving: Ability to develop creative and practical solutions to complex business problems and make sound recommendations.

      • Relationship management: Strong stakeholder and client relationship skills, including the ability to identify needs and investigate solutions.

      • Collaboration and autonomy: Comfortable working independently and as part of a team, with minimal supervision when required.

      • Organization and adaptability: Able to manage competing priorities, meet tight deadlines, exercise sound judgment, and adapt to changing circumstances.
