This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for an Electrical Engineer (Control Systems) based in Canada.

This remote opportunity is ideal for an experienced control systems professional specializing in SCADA and industrial automation.
You will design, program, integrate, commission, and maintain automation solutions supporting electrical power systems and industrial infrastructure.
Working with customers, engineering teams, contractors, vendors, and field personnel, you will deliver reliable systems that meet demanding operational requirements.
The role offers hands-on involvement across the full project lifecycle, from system design and configuration to testing, commissioning, and operational handover.
You will work extensively with Ignition SCADA, PLCs, RTUs, HMIs, industrial networks, and communication protocols.
You will also contribute to improving system performance, cybersecurity, reliability, and engineering standards.
This is an opportunity to work on technically challenging projects while developing your expertise within a collaborative, safety-focused engineering environment.

Accountabilities

You will lead and support SCADA engineering and systems integration activities, ensuring that automation solutions are reliable, secure, and aligned with customer requirements and project objectives.

    • Design, program, configure, maintain, and troubleshoot SCADA systems, PLCs, HMIs, RTUs, gateways, instrumentation, edge devices, and industrial networks.

    • Configure and support Ignition SCADA applications, including Perspective HMI, scripting, alarming, Tag Historian, reporting, and data visualization.

    • Develop technical specifications, network drawings, I/O lists, control narratives, commissioning records, and operational handover documentation.

    • Lead or support Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT), Site Acceptance Testing (SAT), systems integration, commissioning, troubleshooting, and operational handover.

    • Review electrical drawings, single-line diagrams, P&IDs, control schematics, network diagrams, communication architectures, and panel designs.

    • Coordinate with customers, internal engineering teams, field personnel, contractors, and vendors to ensure technical requirements and project schedules are met.

    • Identify opportunities to improve SCADA standards, cybersecurity practices, system performance, reliability, and long-term maintainability.

    • Ensure all engineering and commissioning activities comply with applicable safety, electrical, regulatory, and customer requirements.

    • Support project delivery through effective technical communication, documentation, and coordination.

    • Participate in customer-site activities and provide technical support during commissioning, outages, and critical system events.

    • Requirements

The ideal candidate is an experienced electrical or automation engineer with strong SCADA development and systems integration capabilities. They should combine practical technical expertise with effective communication, independent problem-solving, and the ability to coordinate projects remotely and on-site.

      Required qualifications:

      • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Automation Engineering, or a related discipline. An equivalent combination of relevant education and experience may be considered.

      • At least 5 years of experience in SCADA design, programming, systems integration, commissioning, or troubleshooting.

      • Hands-on experience with Ignition SCADA, including Perspective HMI, Python or Jython scripting, alarming, Tag Historian, and reporting.

      • Practical experience configuring, programming, and troubleshooting PLCs, RTUs, industrial controllers, gateways, and edge devices.

      • Knowledge of industrial networks, fibre optics, VPNs, remote access, operational technology communications, and protocols such as OPC UA, DNP3, Modbus TCP/RTU, and RS-485.

      • Ability to interpret electrical single-line diagrams, P&IDs, control schematics, network diagrams, and I/O lists.

      • Strong technical documentation, communication, problem-solving, and project coordination skills.

      • Ability to work independently in a remote environment while collaborating effectively with geographically distributed teams.

      • Legal authorization to work in Canada and ability to travel within Canada and the United States, subject to applicable border-entry requirements.

      • Preferred qualifications:

        • Experience with electrical substations, protection and control systems, three-phase power, or power system automation.

        • Familiarity with SEL protection relays, RTACs, AcSELerator software, Ignition Edge, Opto 22, CODESYS, or Red Lion products.

        • Knowledge of solar power, battery energy storage systems, distributed energy resources, or renewable power generation.

        • Experience with Linux operating systems and industrial or operational technology cybersecurity practices.

        • Background in SCADA panel design, telecommunications, CCTV, access control, water and wastewater systems, pumping systems, utilities, data centres, or industrial facilities.

        • Experience delivering customer-facing engineering or systems integration projects.

        • Relevant certifications in Ignition, cybersecurity, automation, networking, or project management.

        • Benefits

          • Annual salary range of CAD $100,000–$120,000, depending on experience and technical qualifications.

          • Remote work arrangement from an approved location within Canada.

          • Comprehensive health and wellness benefits.

          • Retirement savings program.

          • Paid vacation and time away from work.

          • Technical training and professional development support.
