Bengaluru, in

R&D Tax Senior Consultant (Technical).

FULL TIMESENIOR LEVELFINANCE & LEGAL

You will turn complex engineering work into defensible R&D tax credit claims for projects in the UK and Ireland. You assess technical uncertainty, write the technical narrative, and work with client technical and finance teams to evidence it. You will report to the Head of R&D Tax and build the technical depth of a growing India-based team.

Key responsibilities

Claim delivery

  • Interview technical leads and analyse project documentation to identify qualifying R&D activities and expenditure.
  • Write and review technical reports and supporting documentation to a standard that withstands HMRC and Irish Revenue scrutiny.
  • Review contracts to establish eligibility, including contracted-out R&D and subcontractor arrangements.
  • Manage a portfolio of concurrent claims to agreed deadlines and quality standards, and escalate delivery risk early.
  • Maintain files and supporting evidence in line with internal quality standards and regulatory requirements.

Advisory and stakeholders

  • Advise tech leads and partners on compliant, defensible claims, including how to capture technical evidence during delivery.
  • Work with technical leads, finance teams and senior stakeholders to obtain the technical and financial information each claim needs.
  • Collaborate with Tax, Audit and Finance colleagues, and provide technical R&D tax input to business development and M&A activity.
  • Track changes to UK and Irish R&D tax legislation and guidance, and brief internal teams on their impact.

Team and continuous improvement

  • Mentor technologists and R&D consultants, giving technical guidance and review feedback.
  • Contribute to process automation, knowledge sharing and training sessions.
  • Handle client data in line with the Version 1 AI Policy, including customer consent requirements for AI use.

Essential experience

  • Degree in engineering, computer science or a related discipline.
  • 8 to 12 years of engineering experience in data, cloud or application development, preferably in R&D, innovation or technology-focused environments.
  • Ability to interpret technical architecture and low-level design documentation, and to explain it to finance and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Strong technical writing and analytical skills.
  • Business-level English with excellent written and verbal communication.
  • Experience engaging senior technical and finance stakeholders.

Desirable experience

  • Direct experience of UK and/or Irish R&D tax credit schemes (strongly preferred).
  • Experience at a professional services firm such as BDO, EY, Deloitte, PwC or KPMG.
  • Exposure to Australian R&D tax incentives.
  • Experience mentoring or leading technologists or consultants.
  • Working knowledge of LLMs, AI-based data models or related technologies.
  • Experience with workflow or analytics tools such as Power BI or ServiceNow.
  • A tax qualification (CTA, ATT or equivalent), or willingness to work towards one.

Professional development

  • Structured training in UK and Irish R&D tax legislation, with UK-qualified review support during ramp-up.
  • Funded certification path in R&D tax or a related discipline.
  • Regular training, seminars and industry events, with evidence of ongoing learning. AI and emerging technology training is encouraged.
