Thorizon Engineering

Amsterdam

Senior Mechanical Analysis Engineer.

FULL TIMESENIOR LEVELENGINEERING

Your mission

You will be responsible for mechanical calculations for all systems or part of the system in Thorizon’s reactor design. As a key member of the calculation expertise center, you will provide mechanical calculation expertise to the teams responsible for reactor design studies and ensure the delivery of mechanical calculation work within the project’s performance, cost, and time constraints.

You will develop mechanical calculation expertise to meet the needs of the Thorizon project and its future developments, ensuring the quality and validity of the studies and work performed across projects, from PILOT to FOAK/NOAK.

You will hold a functional leadership role over the team of structural analysis engineers and will be integrated into a broader, multidisciplinary group of mechanical design engineers and materials experts, reporting to the Head of Mechanics and Materials.

In this role you will:

  • Define, execute, and deliver mechanical calculation work, including calculation specifications, strategies, assumptions, and calculation notes, within the project’s performance, cost, and time constraints.
  • Lead a group of mechanical calculation engineers across projects, from PILOT to FOAK/NOAK, providing in-depth calculation engineering input and ensuring that design choices are technically sound and consistent with requirements and applicable Codes & Standards.
  • Ensure the correct use of calculation tools, develop specific tools, and maintain high-quality, reliable studies.
  • Prioritize work according to project needs and recommend any necessary actions within your area of expertise.
  • Participate in external networks, including international initiatives, to stay at the forefront of industry developments.
  • Put your knowledge to use, develop your ideas, explore different aspects of mechanical engineering, and play a crucial role in the company’s growth

About you:

  • You hold a master’s degree and bring more than 10 years of experience in mechanical engineering calculations.
  • You have at least five years of experience in FEM simulation and analysis, covering linear structural analysis, structural seismic response, thermal stress and fatigue, with advanced or expert proficiency in ABAQUS and/or ANSYS.
  • You bring at least three years of experience applying ASME III and/or RCC-M.
  • You lead by listening and supporting your team, with at least five years of experience managing a team of fewer than 10 people.
  • You combine a strong understanding of calculation-based design engineering with a practical approach to supporting the design team.
  • You have good knowledge of CAD practices and experience using them.
  • You are proficient in office applications.
  • You enjoy working with people who bring different experiences and backgrounds. You adapt your working style to the situation and the people involved, while maintaining technical rigour.
  • You enjoy tackling challenging problems and developing your knowledge.
  • You look at problems from different angles, reducing unnecessary complexity to find practical solutions. Your approach is pragmatic and constructive.
  • You work independently and rigorously within your area of expertise.
  • You exercise sound engineering judgement, considering both your discipline and the wider project. You prioritise your work according to the key issues at stake.
  • You listen before responding, communicate concisely and respectfully, and remain calm under pressure. You write clearly and communicate fluently in English, both spoken and written; French or Dutch is also preferred.
  • You produce work that serves as a reference for your colleagues.

What you can expect from us:

  • The opportunity to help realize the most promising reactor technology and advance Europe's energy future.
  • Being part of an exceptional team that combines engineering rigor, scientific excellence, and entrepreneurial drive.
  • Working in multidisciplinary teams on ambitious missions, with responsibility and meaningful impact from day one.
  • A fast-moving deep-tech environment where initiative is valued and people are trusted to make decisions.
  • Complex, multidisciplinary challenges that will stretch you and accelerate your growth.
  • Competitive compensation and participation in our employee profit-sharing plan.
  • An international workplace with offices in the heart of Amsterdam and Lyon.
