Senior Director, Space Management.

LEADERSHIP
At DICK’S Sporting Goods, we believe in how positively sports can change lives. On our team, everyone plays a critical role in creating confidence and excitement by personally equipping all athletes to achieve their dreams. We are committed to creating an inclusive and diverse workforce, reflecting the communities we serve. If you are ready to make a difference as part of the world’s greatest sports team, apply to join our team today! OVERVIEW: The Sr. Director of Space Management sets the enterprise strategy for optimizing selling space across the company's brick-and-mortar portfolio. This leader translates merchandising, athlete, operational, and financial priorities into scalable space strategies and capabilities that deliver intuitive product flow, effective merchandising, and a compelling in-store experience. The role leads a multi-level organization, connects long-range strategy with near-term planning and execution, and aligns senior cross-functional leaders on high-impact space decisions and priorities. Enterprise Space Strategy and Portfolio Optimization Define and lead the enterprise space management vision, multi-year roadmap, and performance standards across store formats, banners, and merchandising categories. Own executive-level recommendations for space allocation, capacity, category adjacencies, and portfolio standards using financial performance, business insights, athlete experience, and operational requirements. Establish decision frameworks and governance that balance consistency with regionality and localization in making space-related trade-off decisions. Partner with senior leaders across Visual Merchandising, Inventory, Merchandising, Store Design, Technology, and Operations to translate space-related business strategies into executable physical-space solutions. Serve as the senior subject matter authority for space productivity resolving complex cross-department conflicts. Advanced Analytics, Data Governance and Technology Build and advance the analytical ecosystem for space management, including productivity measures, scenario modeling, forecasting, optimization, reporting, and executive decision support. Own development and governance floorplan standards, square feet and capacity metrics, fixture consistency, and store-attribute data ensuring accuracy, integration, and ongoing maintenance standards are met. Lead the space management technology roadmap, automation agenda, and integration strategy in partnership with Technology and business stakeholders; prioritize capabilities based on enterprise value, scalability, adoption, and risk. Institutionalize test-and-learn methods and measurements to quantify results, identify root causes, and continuously improve space strategies and execution. Create a culture that uses advanced analytics and consistent data to challenge assumptions and improve the speed and quality of space-related decision-making. Stay current with emerging technologies and lead the adoption of capabilities that align with business needs and advance Space Management effectiveness. Planning Governance and Enterprise Execution Govern enterprise floor planning and merchandising activity calendars, ensuring sequencing, dependencies, and decision milestones are aligned across functional teams. Oversee floorplan development, quality standards, change control, and delivery performance across new stores, remodels, expansions, seasonal transitions, and strategic initiatives. Ensure space-impacted strategic merchandising initiatives are planned, financially evaluated, resourced and executed within approved scope, timing, and operating parameters. Anticipate execution risk and establish escalation, communication, and accountability mechanisms that improve field readiness and reduce disruption to stores. Represent Space Management in enterprise planning forums and provide clear executive updates on performance, decisions, risks, and required actions. Organizational Leadership and Talent Development Lead and develop a multi-level organization responsible for space strategy, floor planning, retail communication, analytics, data, processes, and technology enablement. Demonstrate exceptional communication and relationship-building skills, with the ability to build trust, influence stakeholders, and drive alignment across functions and levels of the organization. Design the organization, roles, capabilities, and capacity required to support current priorities and future growth; establish clear accountability and effective ways of working. Build a strong leadership pipeline through coaching, succession planning, differentiated development, and intentional exposure to enterprise business challenges. Set measurable performance expectations and hold leaders accountable for business outcomes, quality, speed, collaboration, and continuous improvement. Foster an inclusive, high-performing culture that encourages enterprise thinking, constructive challenge, innovation, and strong partnership with stores and cross-functional teams. QUALIFICATIONS: 10+ years of progressive experience in retail space management, merchandising, planning, store design/planning, operations, analytics, or a related discipline, including significant leadership experience across multi-level teams and complex cross-functional programs. Advanced proficiency with Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint; working proficiency with Outlook, Word, Teams, and business intelligence/reporting platforms. Experience with enterprise space planning, floor planning, planogram, assortment, and store/fixture data solutions. Familiarity with Blue Yonder/JDA Intactix or comparable platforms is preferred. Working knowledge of CAD-based floor planning tools and data visualization; experience sponsoring automation, integration, and technology-enabled process improvement is preferred. VIRTUAL REQUIREMENTS: At DICK’S, we thrive on innovation and authenticity. That said, to protect the integrity and security of our hiring process, we ask that candidates do not use AI tools (like ChatGPT or others) during interviews or assessments. To ensure a smooth and secure experience, please note the following: Cameras must be on during all virtual interviews.
