A Mixed Role That Keeps Veterinary Medicine Interesting
Are you looking for a genuine mixed practice role where no two days are the same?
Acorn Vets is seeking a Mixed Veterinary Surgeon to join our established team in Mallow, Co. Cork. This is an opportunity to enjoy the variety that attracted many vets to the profession in the first place, combining companion animal medicine and surgery with hands-on farm animal work across a loyal and long-standing client base.
You'll work with a rewarding and diverse caseload, managing consultations, medical workups, herd and farm visits, routine and emergency care, and a variety of surgical procedures. Whether your interests lie in small animal medicine, farm animal work, surgery, or developing a mixed skill set, you'll have the freedom and support to shape your role around your strengths and career ambitions.
Clinical Freedom, Trust and Opportunity
At Acorn Vets, we believe experienced vets do their best work when they are trusted.
You'll have the autonomy to make clinical decisions, manage your own cases, and build strong relationships with clients while always having the support of an experienced and collaborative team around you. We encourage clinical discussion, knowledge sharing, and continued professional development, creating an environment where vets can thrive professionally without feeling micromanaged.
For those looking to advance their careers, we actively support further qualifications and offer funding towards certificates and additional areas of interest.
A True Mixed Caseload
This role offers an excellent balance of companion animal and farm animal work, providing the variety and challenge that many mixed practitioners are seeking.
You'll be involved in small animal consultations, diagnostics, medical case management and surgery, alongside farm animal work supporting local agricultural clients. This is a position that allows you to maintain and develop skills across species while enjoying meaningful client relationships and genuine continuity of care.
A Practice with Strong Community Roots
Acorn Vets has been caring for the animals, pet owners, and farming communities of North Cork for many years. Our reputation has been built on providing high-quality veterinary care alongside a personal, community-focused approach.
You'll become part of a welcoming team that values collaboration, support, and excellent patient outcomes. As part of the IVC Evidensia network, you'll enjoy the benefits of a larger organisation including professional development opportunities, career progression pathways, and access to a wide clinical network, while maintaining the feel of a locally trusted independent practice.
Work-Life Balance That Works
This is a full-time position working 40 hours per week.
The practice operates between 8:30am and 6:00pm, with shifts scheduled on a rota basis. The role includes participation in a 1-in-4 on-call rota covering weekdays and weekends, ensuring a fair and manageable distribution of out-of-hours responsibilities across the team.
