Strobe is building the world's largest power plant: not a single site, but a distributed fleet of buildings, batteries, EVs, and generators that buy and sell power in real time across wholesale energy markets.
Own the electrical engineering behind the fleet: the switchgear that connects each site to the grid, the low-, medium-, and high-voltage systems around it, and the code-compliant designs that let us deploy safely across thousands of sites.
What you'd own
- Develop Strobe's switchgear and service-entrance equipment: electrical design, ratings, bus and breaker selection, protection integration, and the path to UL certification
- Design LV, MV, and HV systems for battery storage, EV charging, CHP, solar-plus-storage, and generation projects at commercial and industrial facilities, including service entrances, switchboards, transformers, MV switchgear, and utility-side interconnection facilities
- Run the engineering analysis behind our designs: load flow, short-circuit, protection coordination, and arc flash (IEEE 1584). Specify relays, settings, and protection schemes, including reverse power, anti-islanding, and transfer trip
- Own NEC compliance across our deployments, apply the Power Control System pathway in our designs, and work with AHJs and inspectors to get projects approved
- Support utility interconnections from design through Permission to Operate: prepare and review one-line and three-line diagrams, protection packages, and technical submittals, and see them through utility review
- Define metering, CT/PT placement, telemetry, and controls integration requirements that feed directly into Strobe's hardware and controls platform
- Build reference architectures, design standards, and deployment playbooks that hold up across utility territories and asset types
- Work hands-on with utilities, EPCs, electricians, manufacturers, test labs, and site owners, from concept through construction and commissioning
Strong fit if you have
- A BSEE (or equivalent) and 5+ years of electrical design experience in power distribution, switchgear, utility, or DER projects
- Deep, working fluency in the NEC, and a track record of designs that pass plan review and inspection the first time
- A strong understanding of medium- and high-voltage systems: MV switchgear, transformers, grounding, protection, and utility distribution and substation practices
- Hands-on experience with protective relaying and coordination (SEL or similar), plus short-circuit and arc-flash studies in ETAP, SKM, or EasyPower
- Experience specifying, designing, or developing switchgear or switchboards, and familiarity with the relevant standards (UL 891, UL 1558, ANSI/IEEE C37)
- Direct experience taking C&I projects through utility interconnection
- Comfort moving between detailed engineering and fast field decisions, with a bias toward repeatable standards over one-off solutions
Bonus points
- A PE license, or on track for one
- Experience with generator paralleling, microgrids, export controls, and Power Control Systems (UL 1741 / UL 3141)
- Experience with utility service upgrades, primary-metered services, or customer-owned MV/HV substations
- Product certification experience with an NRTL (UL, Intertek, CSA)
- Python, or the ability to turn power system requirements into software and controls specifications
- Familiarity with wholesale market participation, telemetry requirements, and grid operator programs
You'll sit where electrical engineering, hardware, and software meet. One day you might be reviewing a relay coordination study, the next working through a switchgear design with a manufacturer, and the next walking a utility engineer through an interconnection package.
Small team, high ownership, no layers.
