We're building a local marketplace inside an app that already has customers. Yassir SA runs dark stores across Gauteng delivering groceries every day. We're now opening that platform to the best local merchants - and we need someone to go and sign them.
This is early. The playbook exists but it's young, the merchant base is being built now, and you'll be shaping how this works rather than inheriting a running machine.
What you'll do
- Run discovery with owner-operators and decision makers of target merchants
- Pitch the commercial model and negotiate terms
- Handle objections during the sales cycle
- Work a defined set of catchments and build genuine local knowledge of who's worth signing
- Onboard merchants properly so they go live and stay live
- Feed what you learn in the field back into how we sell and build the product
- Work with the global product and local operations, customer support and marketing teams to build and grow the marketplace vertical
You own the full sales cycle from qualified lead to signed merchant through to onboarding we'll expand the team into specialist verticals as we grow the business.
You'll be out leading our sales efforts - this is not a desk job.
What success looks like
- Monthly merchants signed targets met
- Maintain a strong sales velocity - it doesn't take months between first meeting to sign up
- Merchants you sign are still trading 30 days later
The last one matters most. We measure you on merchants who work, not merchants who sign.
Signing a store that goes dormant in three weeks costs us more than not signing it.
Who this is for
- 2 to 4 years closing experience in B2B, ideally with mid-market businesses
- You've carried a number and hit it
- Consultative, not scripted - you can understand a business' margins well enough to have a credible conversation with them
- As comfortable walking into a store cold as meeting the CEO in a boardroom
- Marketplace, ecommerce, delivery or fintech background is a plus, not a requirement.
Who this isn't for
- If you want a mature territory with inbound leads in an established business, this isn't it
- If you need a lot of structure to be effective, you'll find this frustrating
- If a bad month would shake you, the first few will be hard
