Event Manager

WHO WE ARE

Proxima Fusion is Europe’s fastest-growing fusion company and the continent’s best-funded fusion player, as well as the first spin-out from the Max Planck Institute for Plasma Physics (IPP). Backed by over €650M and powered by a growing team across Munich, Zurich, and Oxford, we are developing the hardware and infrastructure needed to deliver the world’s first commercial stellarator fusion power plant.

Our concept advances the most mature fusion technology out there, the Wendelstein 7-X stellarator, through two next-generation machines: Alpha and Stellaris. Our work combines stellarator optimization, advanced computation, machine learning, and high-temperature superconducting magnets to unlock higher-performance designs that were previously out of reach.

Turning these designs into a functioning fusion power plant requires excellence and ownership across every discipline, from physics and engineering to software, manufacturing, law, and business functions.

As Event Manager, you will be Proxima Fusion in Munich, you will plan and deliver events ranging from investor dinners and international conferences to community engagement, exhibitions and team retreats. Your will translate strategic briefs into effective event formats and independently manage delivery, from planning and budgets, to on-site production and follow-up.

This is a hands-on role combining creative judgment, meticulous project management and team spirit. You will bring event expertise to the table, advise internal stakeholders on what will work and take responsibility for turning plans into successful experiences.

WHY JOIN PROXIMA FUSION

  • You will get to work on some of the most complex tech challenges to bring abundant, safe, clean energy to the world.

  • You'll get to join and learn from an exceptional selection of accomplished and driven individuals.

  • Do your life’s best work and enjoy the journey.

  • Get to show that big things are possible in Europe when you assemble the best talent.

YOUR IMPACT

  • Events achieve the objectives agreed with each team and provide a considered, professional experience with Proxima for our guests and stakeholders.

  • Delivery stays on schedule and within agreed budgets, with risks, dependencies and changes managed early.

  • A coordinated event portfolio gives teams visibility of upcoming activity and resource needs, while evaluation and lessons learned improve future delivery.

WHAT YOU WILL DO

  • Translate event objectives, audiences and content briefs into strong formats, detailed delivery plans and well-designed guest experiences.

  • Independently manage events, including timelines, budgets, venues, suppliers, logistics, invitations, production, run-of-show, on-site execution and follow-up.

  • Deliver events involving investors, policymakers, industrial partners, media and other external stakeholders. These may include executive dinners, partner meetings, or events at our offices.

  • Manage Proxima’s presence at conferences, press moments, exhibitions, industry fairs and other high-profile external platforms together with the Communications team.

  • Produce community and public engagement events in Garching and Gundremmingen, working with the teams responsible for local communications and engagement.

  • Deliver meetings and events for Proxima’s industrial partnership network, including the Alpha Alliance.

  • Organise internal events that build the social foundation on which the company is built: company parties, team retreats and occasional other events.

  • Support recruiting events: career fairs, university formats, hiring days and technical meet-ups with People.

  • Select, brief and manage agencies, venues and suppliers, including procurement, contract coordination and quality control.

  • Maintain an overview of Proxima’s event portfolio and forward calendar, identifying dependencies, resource conflicts and delivery risks early.

  • Track expenditure, evaluate events against agreed objectives and capture lessons that improve future delivery.

WHO YOU ARE

  • Minimum 5 years of relevant experience in event management or production, ideally across corporate, conference, institutional or cultural formats

  • A strong record of independently delivering complex events from initial brief through on-site production and follow-up.

  • Excellent project-management skills and the ability to manage multiple events, budgets, deadlines and external partners simultaneously.

  • Experience working with senior stakeholders and high-profile guests, such as executives, investors, government representatives or industrial partners.

  • Strong supplier and agency management skills, including briefing, negotiation and quality control.

  • A hands-on approach and exceptional attention to detail. You anticipate problems, remain calm under pressure and make sound decisions when plans change.

  • Fluent English and German.

  • Willingness to travel within Europe and work occasional evenings or weekends around event dates.
