The University of Miami, Bascom Palmer Eye Institute has an exciting full time opportunity for a Sr. Ophthalmic Imaging Assistant in Palm Beach Gardens, Florida. The Sr Ophthalmic Imaging Assistant coordinates the patient flow in and out of the examination rooms, ensures examinations rooms are prepared for each visit, performs basic ocular diagnostic testing using specialized instruments in compliance with department standards, and provides general administrative support. CORE JOB FUNCTIONS Ensures that clinic examination rooms are clean, orderly, and well stocked, and that all equipment is in good working condition. Coordinates the patient flow with emphasis on minimizing patient wait time. Orders, dates, and replaces medications, and reports non-working equipment. Maintains evaluation and management work-up forms and all other pertinent medical forms to ensure that they are readily available to physicians. Logs patient time of arrival on daily physician’s schedule to ensure that all patients are accounted for. Expedites the examination of pre-op and post-op patients with special needs. Informs patients regarding current clinical studies and provides general information about common diagnostic and special procedures. Serves as a liaison between physicians, patients, registration, HIM, and the Financial and Business Office. Confers with and makes suggestions to physicians and managers regarding improvements in patient flow. Cleans and sanitizes examination rooms in between each patient and plans examination room assignments to eliminate delay in patient care. Ensures that medical charts and photo charts are available with appropriate forms at the time of appointment or examination. Answers telephone in a professional and diligent manner, relays messages in a timely fashion, and follows up. Adheres to University and unit-level policies and procedures and safeguards University assets. CORE QUALIFICATIONS Education: High School Diploma or equivalent/relevant experience, certification or license Certification and Licensing: Basic Life Support (BLS) from the American Heart Association Experience: Minimum 3 years of relevant experience required Knowledge, Skill, and Attitudes: • Works well with patients of all age groups. • Presents with a professional appearance. • Communicates effectively, both verbally and in writing. • Demonstrates outstanding interpersonal skills. • Analyzes, organizes, prioritizes, and meets deadlines in a fast-paced environment. • Completes assignments accurately and with attention to detail. • Seeks instruction in areas that require additional knowledge. • Works independently and in a collaborative environment. • Displays intermediate knowledge of ocular anatomy, function, and motility. • Exhibits ability to perform the appropriate patient workup using EMR telehealth platform. • Demonstrates competency in all ophthalmic subspecialty patient workups. • Prepares patients for intravitreal injections. • Ability to function as an ophthalmic scribe. • Proficient in Microsoft Office.
