Qualifications Education Applicants must meet one of the following requirements: High school diploma or GED Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) or Certified Patient Care Technician (CPCT/CPTC) Currently enrolled in a healthcare career program through a high school curriculum At least 18 years of age and eligible to participate in Mercy's UAP Training Program Current Mercy co-worker Experience No previous experience required Training Requirements For candidates without previous qualifying healthcare experience, Mercy provides a required 175-hour training program that meets state Department of Health and Senior Services requirements. Training is completed as part of the new hire orientation process. Must be completed within 90 days of hire to remain in the PCA position in accordance with state guidelines. Certifications Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required within one month of hire Completion of Mercy PCA competencies within three months of hire Physical Requirements This position requires the ability to: Push, pull, and/or lift up to 50 pounds on a regular basis Stand and walk for extended periods throughout each shift Grip, reach, bend, kneel, twist, and squat while performing patient care duties Why Mercy? Transforming the Health of Our Communities Our Mercy health system was founded by the Sisters of Mercy in 1986. But our heritage goes back more than 195 years. It began with an Irish woman named Catherine McAuley, who was determined to help women and children in Dublin experiencing poverty. Though Catherine had a modest upbringing, she received an unexpected inheritance that allowed her to fulfill that dream. In 1827, she opened the first House of Mercy in Dublin, intending to teach skills to women and educate children. Many volunteers came to help. A few years later, Catherine founded the Sisters of Mercy, one of the first religious orders whose Sisters were free to walk among the poor and visit them in their homes.
