Internship | Website content management.

INTERNSHIPREMOTEINTERNSECURITY

Job description

The European Centre for Press and Media Freedom is looking for an intern to support the relaunch and management of our website.
ECPMF works to protect and promote press and media freedom across Europe. Through practical support, advocacy, monitoring, legal assistance, emergency relocation, and programmes for journalists in exile, we respond to threats against journalists and help defend independent media as a public good. Our work includes projects such as the Media Freedom Rapid Response, the Journalists-in-Residence programme, legal support for journalists, support for journalists in exile, cross-border investigative journalism initiatives, and public-facing campaigns on press freedom, safety, SLAPPs, exile, and democratic resilience.
We are currently rebuilding our website and updating our corporate design. The intern will play an active role in this process: transferring existing content to the new system, reviewing and adapting texts, and writing new content where needed. The internship offers hands-on experience in web content, editorial work, and digital communications within an international press freedom organisation.

Responsibilities

Key tasks

The intern will support ECPMF's communications team in migrating content from the current website to the new one. This includes reviewing existing pages, deciding together with the team what should be kept, revised, merged, or archived, and preparing content so that it is clear, up to date, and consistent with our new design and tone of voice.

Daily responsibilities

  • Transfer existing texts, images, and documents from the current website to the new content management system.

  • Review, edit, and shorten existing texts for clarity, accuracy, and readability on the web.

  • Draft new texts for project pages, programme descriptions, and other sections of the new website.

  • Ensure consistency in terminology, structure, and style across the website.

  • Help prepare content in line with basic accessibility and SEO principles (e.g. headings, alt texts, link descriptions).

  • Check links, metadata, and image rights, and keep track of the migration progress.

  • Support the communications team with related tasks, such as updating newsletter and social media references to the new website.

Your profile

We are looking for a motivated person with an interest in press freedom, but most importantly, some experience with managing big websites.

The ideal candidate writes clearly and precisely in English and German, enjoys working with texts, and is able to explain complex topics in an accessible and responsible way. They work in a structured, detail-oriented manner and can keep track of a large volume of content.
Experience with WordPress or another CMS, basic HTML, SEO, web accessibility, or image editing tools (e.g. Canva, Adobe Creative Suite) is required. Previous experience in editorial work, journalism, communications, NGOs, or student media is an asset.

  • Enrolled at a German university.

  • Excellent written English and German.

  • Strong writing and editing skills, with attention to detail.

  • Insight into the work of European civil society organisations, international coalitions, and media freedom networks.

  • A collaborative working environment in Leipzig, with the possibility of hybrid work depending on organisational needs.
