Free AI Story Writer & Plot Generator
Sudowrite is an AI story writer built only for fiction. Pick a genre, add an idea if you have one, and get story plots back in seconds. When one grabs you, take it into Sudowrite and keep going: it picks up where you left off, in your voice, and remembers the characters you've already set up.
How the Sudowrite AI story writer works
1. Generate a plot here, free
Choose a primary genre, blend in a second one if you like, set the tone from lighthearted to dark, and add any themes you want. The generator gives you story plots you can actually build on.
2. Build your story bible
In Sudowrite, the Story Bible holds your synopsis, characters, worldbuilding and outline in one place. Everything the AI writes afterward follows it, so your hero doesn't change eye color in chapter nine.
3. Write it together
Write suggests the next 300 or so words in your voice, and you choose what stays. Rewrite, Describe and Expand help you fix and refine scenes that feel flat. You're the author the whole way through.
Why fiction writers pick Sudowrite over a general chatbot
General chatbots are built for everything, so their stories tend to sound like everything. Sudowrite includes Muse, a model trained for fiction, and it keeps your whole story in mind instead of one chat window. You don't need to write prompts. You write your story, and Sudowrite works inside it.
Sudowrite is built for authors, by authors. Trusted by 33,000+ authors, seen in The New York Times, The New Yorker, and used by best-selling authors.
Frequently asked questions
What is an AI story writer?
An AI story writer is a tool that helps you write fiction with AI. Sudowrite is one built only for fiction: it generates plots, suggests the next lines in your voice, and remembers your characters and world through its Story Bible.
Is Sudowrite's AI story writer free?
The plot generator on this page is free. Sudowrite itself has a free trial, so you can try writing a full story before you pay.
Will the AI write in my voice?
Yes. Write reads what you've already written and continues in your style. Muse, Sudowrite's fiction-trained model, is built to sound like an author rather than a chatbot.
Who owns the stories I write?
You do. Sudowrite claims no rights to your work, and we don't train on your writing.
What genres can I write?
Any of them. Fantasy, romance, sci-fi, mystery, horror, literary fiction, fan fiction and everything in between. Sudowrite treats every genre as real fiction.
Can I write a whole book with it?
Yes. Sudowrite takes you from idea to outline to Scenes to a full draft, and Chapter Continuity carries your previous chapters forward so the AI picks up where you left off.
