- Position: Assistant Manager – Health & Safety
- Location: Dubai, UAE
- Employment Type: Temporary Contract
- Contract Duration: 4 months
- Working Days: 6 days per week
Job Purpose
Lead, supervise, monitor and coordinate with Health and Safety team for all stages of exhibition and non-exhibition (Build up, event time & Tear down) as well as Health & Safety monitoring within the DWTC complex under lead of the Health and Safety Acting Assistant Manager.
Roles and Responsibilities
- Assist in developing and implementing HSE policies, standards, and guidelines specific to venues and exhibitions. Ensure compliance with local regulations, international standards, and organizational policies.
- To support the Manager and AVP on, updating and maintaining the Rules and Regulations in order to meet the Standards of Health and Safety, accepted Code of Practice and ensure adherence and compliance with Statutory regulations, Federal Laws & Municipality Orders from Dubai Municipality, Standards from Civil Defence, etc.
- Conduct regular inspections and risk assessments of the venue, events, exhibitions, and facilities to identify potential hazards and ensure compliance with regulatory standards.
- To monitor the daily activities of the Events and Exhibitions and advise the correct standards and requirements according to the Standards of Health and Safety.
- Collaborate with department heads and event organizers to assess HSE requirements and provide guidance on risk mitigation strategies.
- Deliver HSE training sessions to employees, contractors, and exhibitors. Promote awareness campaigns to enhance understanding and adherence to safety practices.
- Establish and maintain effective emergency response plans and protocols, including evacuation procedures and first aid provisions.
- Support the implementation of sustainability initiatives, including waste management, energy efficiency, and environmentally friendly practices during exhibitions and events.
- Collaborate with local regulatory authorities, including Dubai Municipality (DM), Dubai Civil Defence (DCD), GCAA, DCAA and Dubai Police (DP), to address and ensure compliance with all health and safety requirements and regulations.
- Track and report on HSE performance metrics, including incident trends, inspection results, and compliance levels. Present findings to senior management and suggest continuous improvement strategies.
- Plan, organize, and lead emergency drills in accordance with established requirements and the predefined schedule to ensure preparedness and compliance.
- Overseeing the helipad operations and providing support for daily activities to ensure safety, compliance, and efficient functionality aligning with GCAA and DCAA guidelines and requirements.
Key Responsibilities and Weightage
- Assist the H&S Manager and AVP- Venue Infrastructure for all Health and Safety matters across the venues, buildings and helipad. (20%)
- Maintain close monitoring, communication and report day to day H&S operational activities to Health & Safety Manager. Review HSE inspection reports for all destinations as per schedule, and actively participate in conducting event inspection report when required. (20%)
- Ensure all operational activities comply with DWTC HSE Rules and Regulations. (15%)
- Ensure Health and Safety programs and procedures are implemented within the area of his/her responsibility. (10%)
- Actively engaged in management of contractor, permit to work, inductions, inspections and close outs activities. (5%)
- Continually seek opportunities to develop and improve Health and Safety qualifications. (5%)
- Implement and oversee the adoption of automation and HSE management system software, ensuring the team effectively utilizes available tools to enhance efficiency and compliance. (5%)
- Conduct emergency drills and ensure comprehensive emergency preparedness across all destinations to maintain readiness and compliance with safety standards. (5%)
- Support the implementation of ISO 14001 and ISO 45001 Standards across the DWTC Destinations. (5%)
- Actively participated in audits, prepare corrective and preventive actions plan and ensure the closure of the audit points (Internal and External). (10%)
Requirements
Formal Education
- Bachelor's degree in occupational health, Safety, Environmental Science, or a related field.
- NEBOSH, IOSH, or equivalent HSE certifications.
- Strong understanding of local HSE regulations and international standards (e.g., ISO 45001, ISO 14001).
Work Experience
- 7+ years of experience in HSE, preferably in events, exhibitions, or venue management.
Skills and Knowledge
- Computer Literate
- Presentation skills
- Events and Exhibition experience preferred but not required
- Strong Reporting and communication Skills (Mandatory: English). Arabic is preferred.
- Understanding of AutoCAD Drawings.
- Understand Technical Specifications.
