Identity is the key to unlocking the potential of AI. Okta secures AI by building the trusted, neutral infrastructure that enables organizations to safely embrace this new era. This work requires a relentless drive to solve complex challenges with real-world stakes. We are looking for builders and owners who operate with speed and urgency and execute with excellence.

This is an opportunity to do career-defining work. We're all in on this mission. If you are too, let's talk.

The Team At Okta, we are building an AI-augmented People team focused on accelerating business growth and making work simpler. As part of our Global People Business Partners team, this role reports to the Senior Director, People Business Partners, and collaborates closely with cross-functional partners across Legal, Compliance, Employee Relations, Payroll, Central Operations, and frontline Federal managers.

Role The People Partner Specialist plays a critical operational role handling specialized Federal HR operations while keeping our broader People Business Partner team organized and focused on high-level strategic work. Serving as the dedicated U.S.-citizen contact for Federal employees and leadership, you will manage Workday administration, facilitate manager guidance within CUI and ITAR compliance, and coordinate global talent program operations. This role offers direct visibility into strategic HR advisory, serving as a strong foundation for career growth within Okta's People organization.

Responsibilities

  • Process Workday updates and resolve day-to-day HR support tickets for Federal teams, maintaining accurate records for team structures, positions, locations, and compensation.
  • Guide frontline Federal managers through performance management processes and routine team matters in full compliance with CUI and ITAR guidelines.
  • Partner with Legal and Compliance to audit and maintain accurate government ID records and federal employee files in Workday.
  • Drive key talent program operations across business units by tracking timelines and deliverables for annual performance reviews, promotions, compensation planning, and survey follow-ups.
  • Format raw workforce metrics into clean, executive-ready presentation decks and handle ad-hoc reporting requests until self-service options are available.
  • Conduct live exit and stay interviews across teams to collect qualitative feedback, summarizing key themes and trends to help address retention concerns.
  • Resolve operational bottlenecks for non-standard HR questions or route specialized requests to Legal, Employee Relations, Payroll, or Central Operations.

Requirements

  • 5 years of related experience in a professional role with a Bachelor’s degree; or an advanced degree without experience; or equivalent experience.
  • U.S. Citizenship and residence in the Washington, DC metro area (Hybrid) to meet Federal compliance requirements.
  • Experience in HR operations, HR coordination, PBP support, or HR Generalist roles, preferably within tech or a regulated/government contracting environment.
  • Practical experience using Workday (updating organizational structures, positions, and employee details) and HR ticketing systems such as ServiceNow.
  • Solid skills in Google Sheets and Excel (pivot tables and standard formulas) with the ability to turn workforce data into clear presentation decks.
  • Demonstrated track record of managing confidential employee information with discretion and integrity.
