Position Overview:
The Mechanical Engineer – E-Motor & Inverter supports product engineering activities for E-Motor and Inverter assemblies in the manufacturing plant. The role applies established engineering methods to evaluate product and assembly issues, support root cause analysis, develop and verify containment actions, and contribute to permanent corrective actions in collaboration with Core Engineering, Manufacturing, Quality, and other cross-functional teams. The position supports design-intent and validation requirements, production readiness, product changes, and manufacturing ramp-up activities within the assigned scope.
Key Responsibilities:
- Work with Manufacturing and cross-functional teams to investigate and resolve assigned product and test-specification issues related to E-Motor and Inverter assemblies.
- Apply standard problem-solving techniques to analyze component- and system-level product issues within the assigned scope.
- Support product change management activities addressing compatibility, design, and production issues in collaboration with relevant engineering teams.
- Support implementation of design-intent assembly requirements for E-Motor and Inverter assemblies on the production line.
- Assist with product risk assessments related to process, equipment, and part deviations, and escalate complex or high-risk matters when required.
- Provide on-site product engineering support for E-Motor and Inverter mechanical subsystems within the manufacturing plant.
- Use production and quality data to support root cause analysis, corrective actions, and prevention of repeat issues.
- Support new-product launches and part-concession or deviation activities without compromising approved product requirements.
- Support high-volume production ramp-up and assigned product-engineering activities.
- Document technical findings, assigned actions, decisions, and closure evidence in the applicable engineering systems.
- Provide engineering input to build-process development and improvement activities to maintain process variation within design-intent limits.
Skills:
- Working knowledge of mechanical product engineering for E-Motor, Inverter, gearbox, or related automotive assemblies.
- Ability to apply structured problem-solving and root cause analysis methods to product and manufacturing issues.
- Knowledge of DFMEA, PFMEA, Control Plans, DVP&R, DFM, and DFA.
- Working knowledge of CATIA or 3DEXPERIENCE and 2D or 3D stack-up analysis.
- Ability to analyze engineering and production data using tools such as Minitab, JMP, Python, MATLAB, or SQL.
- Familiarity with Jira and Confluence for issue tracking, technical documentation, and cross-functional collaboration.
- Ability to work within established engineering procedures and escalate issues based on risk and complexity.
- Good communication, technical documentation, collaboration, and prioritization skills.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Automotive Engineering, or a related discipline.
- 5 years of relevant automotive engineering experience in product development, design and release, manufacturing support, launch, or resident product engineering.
- Experience applying structured problem-solving methods to product or manufacturing issues.
- Experience with E-Motor, Inverter, gearbox, power-electronics mechanical interfaces, or related electric-drive assemblies is preferred.
- Knowledge of castings, oil-cooling systems, planetary gear trains, static and dynamic seals, stators, rotors, half-shafts, or power-electronics hardware interfaces is preferred.
- Six Sigma Green Belt or Black Belt, Engineering-in-Training certification, or collegiate FSAE, BAJA, or similar experience is preferred.
- Experience supporting product development, improvement, launch, or production ramp-up activities is preferred.
