Obama Presidential Center, United States of America

Assistant Custodial Operations Supervisor (Third Shift).

At The Obama Foundation, our mission is to inspire, empower, and connect people to change their world. We seek to build an active democratic culture where people are equipped and motivated to make change in the communities where they live, work, and play. Right here on the South Side of Chicago, we’re building a home for this vision, a global center for change with a range of opportunities - coordinated programming, community outreach events, educational moments, and more - that invite visitors from down the block or across the globe to turn hope into action. Achieving our ambitious goals starts with an exceptional team built on our Hope to Action Values - Courage, Empathy, Integrity, Accountability, Community, Inclusivity, Pragmatism, Resilience, Imagination, and Hope. A Framework that anyone, anywhere, can use to build trust, activate participation, and expand opportunity in their community. Purpose of the Role The third shift Assistant Custodial Operations Supervisor at the Obama Presidential Center will collaborate closely with internal teams to ensure and uphold the quality of the campus’ interior spaces. This role will analyze and coordinate the schedule, timeline, staffing, and budget of custodial related maintenance and upkeep. Importantly, this role will serve as a point of contact for leadership and stakeholders to streamline team priorities and efficient workflows in alignment with the Obama Foundation’s objectives. As the Assistant Custodial Operations Supervisor, you’ll be reporting directly to the Custodial Operations Supervisor for the Obama Presidential Center. Core Job Responsibilities Supervise the Lead Custodians and custodial staff ensuring best-in-class standards that align with American Physical Plant Association (APPA) guidelines, as well as the campus' Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) Platinum, and International WELL Building Institute (WELL) Healthy & Safety certification requirements. Provide hands-on leadership and oversight of the campus floor care program, including daily and restorative floor maintenance. Monitor contracted service providers and vendors to ensure they meet performance expectations, stay on schedule, and support service goals—especially during high-traffic events and special programs. Collaborate with the Custodial Operations Supervisor and the Superintendent of Building Services to develop, implement, and improve procedures for efficient, sustainable operations, including effective inventory management of supplies and equipment. Support the proper use, care, and maintenance of floor care equipment, including Tennant and Kaivac machines. Conduct regular site inspections using a Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS) software to collect and analyze data, making informed adjustments to optimize operations. Serve as a point of contact to address maintenance issues with timely responses. Oversee short- and long-term maintenance and upkeep of campus interior facilities including but not limited to specialty structures and finishes, dining areas, museum exhibits, office spaces, athletic centers, libraries, and restroom facilities. This includes routine and restorative floor care such as machine scrubbing, buffing, refinishing, and other specialized floor maintenance. Key Deliverables / Outcomes Oversee training, scheduling for staff, managing day-to-day operations for staff assignments, work orders, and inventory. Gather updates and report on work of staff to ensure efficiency and standards of service. Provide training and direction on floor care procedures, equipment operation, and proper techniques. Leverage CMMS software to track services across campus, including contracted services, and to monitor equipment and supplies. Collaborate with internal teams to ensure that comprehensive custodial service with attention to detail and compliance with APPA, WELL, and LEED certification standards are met. Perform inspections, reporting areas or issues that require attention to prevent service interruptions for guests and programming. Monitor floor conditions throughout the campus and proactively identify areas requiring routine, corrective, or restorative floor care. Required Qualifications Experience in day-to-day custodial management of teams, ideally at a cultural or entertainment institution. Experience with commercial floor care, including auto-scrubbers, wet/dry or spray-and-vac equipment, buffing, and floor refinishing strongly preferred. Demonstrates discretion and independent judgment to resolve unexpected or complex issues with minimal supervision. Experience with inventory and equipment management. Familiarity with commercial floor care equipment such as Tennant and Kaivac machines preferred. Strong attention to detail with the ability to prioritize and manage workforce talent as necessary. Flexibility of hours including but not limited to early morning, late night, weekends, and holidays across campus in both indoor and outdoor environments. Ability to work out of the Obama Presidential Center in Jackson Park and/or other Obama Foundation locations in Chicago. The salary range for this role is between $59,755 and $74,670. This is an in-person role, located at the Obama Presidential Center in Jackson Park. At the Obama Foundation, we are guided by a core belief: that ordinary people working together can change history. Our mission is to inspire those people to take action, empower them to change their world for the better, and connect them so they can achieve more together than they can alone. We were founded by community organizers, so when we seek change, we do it by bringing people together. That approach begins at home, on the South Side of Chicago, where we are building the Obama Presidential Center. The Center represents a historic opportunity for Chicago: a chance to build a world-class museum and public gathering space that celebrates our nation’s first African American President and First Lady, steps away from where he began his career, where she was raised, and where—together—they made their home. But that approach extends to all our work, whether it’s holding leadership training sessions in communities throughout the U.S., bringing local leaders together in countries around the world, working to support the global education of girls, or ensuring young men of color have pathways to opportunity. As President Obama has said, “we cannot solve the challenges of our time unless we solve them together.” So join us. For more information, please visit www.obama.org.
