The New York City Department of Correction seeks to recruit a friendly, dependable, and customer-focused Cashier for the Rikers Island Central Cashier Facility. The Rikers Island Central Cashier Facility assists people in custody, friends and family members with various discharge resources.
The facility is open 24/7, and the Division is looking for a flexible individual available for various shifts. The ideal candidate will provide excellent customer service, accurately process transactions, and help maintain a clean and organized checkout area. This role requires strong communication skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment. The incumbents will be responsible for but not limited to:
- Greeting customers in a friendly and professional manner;
- Processing cash, credit card, debit card, and digital payments accurately;
- Handling customer inquiries and resolving issues courteously;
- Maintaining an accurate cash drawer and balance receipts at the end of shifts;
- Following company policies and procedures regarding transactions and security;
- Supporting team members with stocking, and other office duties as needed;
- Perform related duties as assigned.
CASHIER - 10605
1. A four-year high school diploma or its educational equivalent, and one year of full-time satisfactory experience dealing with sums of money in such positions as cashier, sales cashier, bank teller, housing teller, railroad clerk, or toll collector; or
2. Two years of full-time satisfactory experience in "1" above.
3. Education and/or experience equivalent to "1" or "2" above. However, all candidates must have at least one year of full-time experience as described in "1" above.
