Vertin

Edina

Senior Business Partner, Talent Acquisition (TA Manager).

FULL TIMESENIOR LEVELPEOPLE & OPS

You've been called to serve others. So have we.

About Vertin

Vertin was founded in 1904 by Joseph Vertin Sr. in Breckenridge, Minnesota, and has grown into one of the largest privately held, family-owned funeral home companies in the Midwest. Today about 700 associates serve families across 80+ locations in 8 states, under trusted local brands.

Our mission is Honoring Lives and Enriching Caregivers. We care for the families we serve and for the people who do this meaningful work. Our locations serve their communities their way, and our Shared Services team provides the backbone that lets them focus on families.

The role

Are you a talent leader who still loves the hunt? This is your seat.

You will lead talent acquisition for Vertin: you’ll set the strategy, build the hiring engine that serves all 80 of our funeral homes, and develop our Early Careers & Sourcing Specialist. You will also stay close to the work. The best candidates for our roles are rarely job hunting, and licensed funeral directors, embalmers and location leaders are some of the hardest people to find in any industry. So we need a leader who sources like a pro and still enjoys finding the people no one else can.

You are part leader, part strategist, part sourcer and fully committed to people. You report to the VP of Administration.

What you’ll do

  • Lead the talent function
    • Own talent acquisition strategy for funeral directors, location leaders, part-time associates and Shared Services roles.
    • Lead and develop our Early Careers & Sourcing Specialist, and grow the team’s capability as Vertin grows.
    • Lead the rollout of our applicant tracking system (ATS) and make it the backbone of how every location hires.
    • Partner with Operations, Marketing and senior leaders to plan hiring needs and grow the Vertin employer brand.
    • Use data to show what is working, including time to fill, source of hire, quality of hire and new hire retention.
  • Source and recruit hands-on
    • Source and engage passive candidates for our hardest-to-fill roles using LinkedIn Recruiter, Boolean search, industry networks and creative outreach.
    • Build talent pipelines for every region, so the right people are ready before a role opens.
    • Strengthen our funeral director pipeline through internships, apprenticeships and mortuary science school relationships.
    • Create a hiring experience candidates remember for the right reasons: fast, warm and consistent at every location.
    • Be our AI champion for talent acquisition. Test new tools and bring the best ideas into how we source, screen and engage candidates.

Requirements

What you bring

  • 5+ years of HR experience, including ideally at least 2 years leading talent acquisition in a multi-site organization.
  • A record of building recruiting processes, hiring hard-to-find or licensed roles and partnering with Marketing on employer brand.
  • Strong judgment, discretion and credibility with senior leaders and field managers.
  • Experience leading a talent acquisition function or team, including setting strategy and coaching recruiters or sourcers.
  • A proven track record as a strong sourcer. You can show how you found and hired hard-to-find, licensed or specialized talent that wasn’t actively looking.
  • Expert use of LinkedIn Recruiter, Boolean search and other sourcing tools.
  • Hands-on experience implementing an applicant tracking system.
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience.
  • Eligible to work in the United States.
  • Able to travel occasionally to company locations across 8 states, conferences, and college recruiting visits.

Nice to have:

  • PHR, SHRM-CP or SPHR certification.
  • Experience in funeral service or another licensed profession.
