Job Summary:

We are seeking a highly motivated, analytical, and organized Senior Accountant, possessing direct experience within a manufacturing environment, to join our team. This role involves managing key accounting functions while ensuring the smooth operation of our office environment, reporting directly to the Financial Controller. This is a diverse, hands-on role ideal for a seasoned accounting professional who enjoys contributing to both the financial integrity and the operational efficiency of a growing company. You will be responsible for significant aspects of the accounting cycle, financial reporting, inventory and cost accounting considerations, and analysis.

Job Duties:

  • Manage full-cycle accounts payable (AP) processes, including invoice verification, coding, processing, payments, and vendor reconciliations.
  • Manage full-cycle accounts receivable (AR) processes, including invoicing, collections, cash application, and customer reconciliations.
  • Maintain the integrity and accuracy of the general ledger (GL); prepare and post journal entries, including those related to inventory, cost of goods sold (COGS), and manufacturing variances.
  • Perform timely bank and credit card reconciliations.
  • Record payroll journal entries based on third-party provider reports, reconcile related liability accounts, and verify the timely remittance of all source deductions (CPP, EI, Income Tax).
  • Calculate, collect, file, and remit GST and BC PST accurately and on time.
  • Lead month-end and year-end closing procedures, ensuring deadlines are met, with a focus on accurate inventory valuation and COGS reporting.
  • Prepare timely and accurate monthly financial statements and supporting schedules for review by the Financial Controller.
  • Assist the Financial Controller with variance analysis (actual vs. budget/forecast), particularly focusing on production costs and material variances.
  • Support the budgeting and forecasting processes, incorporating manufacturing-specific drivers.
  • Assist with internal and external audits by providing necessary documentation and support, especially related to inventory and costing.
  • Maintain organized, accurate, and complete financial records (digital and physical).
  • Contribute to the development and implementation of accounting policies, procedures, and internal controls.
  • Identify opportunities for process improvements within the finance function, especially related to manufacturing accounting workflows.
  • Utilize and maintain data integrity within the company's ERP system, ensuring it accurately reflects manufacturing operations.
  • Handle confidential information with the utmost discretion.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, Finance, or a related business field is required.
  • Minimum 3-5 years of accounting experience specifically within a manufacturing environment is required. This must include hands-on experience with inventory accounting, cost of goods sold calculation, and ideally exposure to standard costing or variance analysis.
  • Overall minimum 5+ years of progressive accounting experience, including hands-on experience with full-cycle accounting.
  • Experience working with ERP systems is essential, particularly modules related to inventory and manufacturing.
  • Strong understanding of Canadian GST/PST rules and remittance procedures.
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel (Pivot Tables, VLOOKUPs, complex formulas) and competence in other MS Office applications.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving skills, and exceptional attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines effectively.
  • Proven ability to work independently with minimal supervision, demonstrating initiative and a proactive approach.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to handle sensitive information with confidentiality and discretion.
