Job Title: Assistant Professor of Art Full or Part Time: Full time Hours: 40 Exempt: Yes Supervisory Org: Art (PM) Job Description: JOB SUMMARY: The Department of Art at Saginaw Valley State University invites applications for a full-time, tenure-track position as Assistant Professor of Art (Art Education) to begin July 1, 2027. By the time of appointment, applicants must have acquired a terminal degree in Art Education and/or Studio Art. Teaching responsibilities (24 credit hours/year) are primarily in Art Education and beginning through advanced undergraduate studio courses (i.e., drawing, photography, or sculpture, with sculpture preferred). Candidates are expected to have a significant record of professional creative work, an active creative/scholarly agenda, and interest and experience in teaching a broad spectrum of undergraduate students. Other responsibilities include academic service, student recruitment and advising, and advancing the Art Department’s public programming. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Terminal degree from an accredited institution in Art Education and/or Studio Art; Demonstrated success in teaching undergraduate Art Education and studio classes; Record of professional creative activity, exhibitions, research, or scholarship; Experience and ability to positively interact with all members of the campus community; Ability to perform the essential duties of the position, with or without accommodations. PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: K-12 art teaching experience; Experience supervising student teachers, field experiences, or other clinical experiences in Art Education.
