Industrial Engineer.

ENGINEERING
Summary: VIAVI (NASDAQ: VIAV) is a global provider of network test, monitoring and assurance solutions for telecommunications, cloud, enterprises, first responders, military, aerospace, and railway. VIAVI is also a leader in light management technologies for 3D sensing, anti-counterfeiting, consumer electronics, industrial, automotive, government and aerospace applications. We are the people behind the products that help keep the world connected at home, school, work, at play, and everywhere in between. VIAVI employees are passionate about supporting customer success and we welcome people who bring their best every day to the company – to question, to collaborate and to push for solutions that will delight our customers. Duties & Responsibilities: About the role This is a broad, hands-on industrial engineering role in a high-mix, low-volume electronics manufacturing environment. This role is open to candidates from recent graduates through several years of experience. We will scope the responsibilities to what you bring, but the breadth is the point: if you want a narrow assignment with a stable product mix, this is not it. If you want to see the entire operation early in your career and be given room to fix what is broken, read on. What you'll do Process & manufacturing engineering Develop, document, and maintain work instructions, process documentation, and standard work for new and existing products Perform time studies, line balancing, and work-content analysis. Collaborate with engineering to design and improve workstations, fixtures, tooling, and material presentation for ergonomics, throughput, and quality. Support factory layout and material flow work, including equipment moves and cell reconfigurations. Support new product introduction as a manufacturing voice — DFM feedback, first-article build support, pilot runs, and transition to production. Capacity, planning & scheduling support Help build and maintain the capacity model: work-center utilization, labor availability, bottleneck identification, and load-versus-capacity over a rolling horizon. Partner with production planning on constraint analysis, build sequencing, and realistic commit dates. Model the operational impact of demand changes, staffing scenarios, and shift structures. Identify bottlenecks and drive corrective action, whether that is tooling, cross-training, layout, or outsourcing. Analysis & reporting Build reporting and analysis tools that give production, planning, and leadership actionable visibility into throughput, labor, and schedule performance Pull and reconcile data from ERP and shop floor sources to answer operational questions quickly and accurately Turn analysis into recommendations that hold up to scrutiny — show the math, state the assumptions, and quantify the impact Support testing and rollout of new manufacturing execution capability from the user side Quality & continuous improvement Participate in root cause analysis and corrective action for process-driven defects Drive lean and continuous improvement activity — kaizen events, 5S, standard work, waste elimination — with measured before-and-after results Cost & make-versus-buy Support product cost modeling grounded in actual routing and labor data Quantify and justify capital requests, automation proposals, and process investments Pre-Requisites / Skills / Experience Requirements: Required qualifications Bachelor’s degree in industrial engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related technical discipline 0–5 years of experience in a manufacturing or operations engineering role; new graduates with relevant internship or co-op experience are encouraged to apply Coursework or working experience in time study, work measurement, process design, and capacity analysis Familiarity with how an ERP/MRP system drives production planning and shop floor execution Strong analytical skills with advanced Excel; comfort building your own tools rather than waiting for IT Ability to communicate credibly with machine operators, technicians, engineers, and executives — often in the same day Willingness to spend real time on the floor Preferred qualifications High-mix, low-volume exposure — configured-to-order, engineered-to-order, or job-shop environments Electronics or electromechanical assembly and test background Experience in an AS9100, ISO 9001, or ISO 13485 environment Scripting or data automation experience (Python, SQL, VBA) Lean Six Sigma certification (Green Belt or higher) CAD proficiency for layout, fixture design, or tooling Working conditions On-site role in an office and manufacturing environment; regular time on the production floor Occasional lifting up to [25–50] lbs; standing and walking for extended periods Required PPE including safety glasses and ESD protection Travel between manufacturing sites as needed Eligibility This position requires access to information subject to U.S. export control regulations (ITAR/EAR). Applicants must be a U.S. Person as defined under those regulations, or otherwise eligible to obtain required authorization. If you have what it takes to push boundaries and seize opportunities, apply to join our team today. VIAVI Solutions is an equal opportunity and affirmative action employer – minorities/females/veterans/persons with disabilities. Job Posting Pay Range: 65,800 to 122,200 Exceptional qualifications, experience and location may impact salary. VIAVI offers a competitive benefits package that includes paid time off, health, life and disability insurance, 401(k), and a bonus program. VIAVI empowers Service Providers and IT organizations to manage the network lifecycle for complex 5G and Fiber networks with intuitive instruments, systems and technologies; and our expertise in light management and optical coatings help protect the world's bank notes from counterfeiters, enhance the colors you see, and enable advanced technology such as 3D sensing. We are a team of thought leaders who have the freedom to support and innovate and look for new effective and efficient solutions for our customers.
