ESW

Dublin, Ireland

Product Design Engineer.

DESIGN

About the role

We're changing how Product Design works at ESW.

AI now lets designers work much closer to the product itself. We're looking for a Product Design Engineer who can take ideas from concept through to working experiences, using design, development and AI tools.

You'll be a designer first, with strong UX and UI skills, and comfortable working with code and existing product environments. You'll use AI-assisted tools to prototype, build and test quickly, so what ships is closer to what was designed.

The role won't replace Engineering. Design will take on more of the work, which frees Engineering to focus on the problems that need their expertise.

What you'll do

  • Take design ideas past Figma into working experiences, using AI to build, test and refine them, and know what can realistically go into production.
  • Develop a consistent way of working with AI that doesn't depend on any one tool: how you frame the problem, what context you give, how you iterate and how you check the result.
  • Work out with Product and Engineering where Design can go further, where it can build directly, and where Engineering needs to take over.
  • Own design problems from early exploration to a working solution.
  • Work directly with clients and internal stakeholders to understand problems and explore solutions.
  • Implement and refine UI directly in product codebases, with support from Engineering when needed.
  • Design and build reusable components and patterns for our design system.
  • Make direct improvements to existing products and test ideas in context.
  • Share new ways of working with AI that help the wider Design team prototype, test and build.
  • Keep standards high for usability, accessibility, interaction and visual design.
  • Help shape the Design Engineering role at ESW.

What we're looking for

  • Strong product design experience across UX, interaction and visual design.
  • A portfolio that shows strong product thinking and UI design, including design engineering work such as working prototypes or experiences built with AI tools.
  • Experience taking digital products from concept through to implementation.
  • Experience working with design systems, component libraries and reusable UI patterns.
  • An understanding of coding concepts and basics. A full development background isn't required.
  • Experience with AI-assisted development tools such as Claude Code, Cursor, Copilot, v0 or similar.
  • Strong understanding of accessibility and responsive design.
  • Confident working with clients and stakeholders: understanding their needs, presenting ideas and acting on feedback.
  • Comfortable working on problems that aren't fully defined yet and working out what to build.
  • You might be a great fit if...
  • You're a Product Designer who has started building as well as designing.
  • You're curious about how things work under the surface. You may already use AI and code to make working prototypes, build components or implement parts of your own designs.
  • Or you already call yourself a Design Engineer and enjoy working across Design and Engineering.
  • Either way, you'd rather build the experience than describe it.
