Corona, CA

Guitar Repair Specialist.

$23–28/HR

Fender Musical Instruments Corporation is a world-famous brand with offices across the globe. Fender was born in Southern California and has built a worldwide influence beyond the studio and the stage. A Fender is more than an instrument; it’s a cultural symbol that resonates globally.

We are currently searching for an exceptional Repair Specialist to join our manufacturing team in Corona, CA. The Repair Specialist will be responsible for evaluating and repairing guitars and basses that do not meet Fender quality standards during the manufacturing inspection process.

This position will diagnose cosmetic, mechanical, setup, and functional issues; perform appropriate adjustments and repairs; and ensure instruments meet established specifications before being returned to production flow. The ideal candidate will have strong guitar-repair knowledge, attention to detail, and the ability to evaluate instrument playability, workmanship, and overall quality.

Essential Functions:

  • Evaluate guitars and basses identified by Quality Inspectors as requiring repair or adjustment before final acceptance.
  • Diagnose cosmetic, mechanical, functional, setup, and playability issues using established Fender specifications and quality criteria.
  • Perform repairs and adjustments involving bridges, saddles, nuts, necks, pickups, electronics, hardware, and other instrument components.
  • File and shape nut slots to specification and perform related sanding and finishing work.
  • Perform fret leveling, dressing, and other fret-related repairs as required.
  • Adjust neck relief, string height, intonation, pickup height, and other setup specifications.
  • Tune and play-test repaired instruments to confirm proper functionality, playability, and intonation.
  • Inspect finishes and surfaces for scratches, uneven areas, cosmetic defects, or other conditions that do not meet established quality standards.
  • Perform minor cosmetic repair, buffing, and polishing as needed to restore instruments to acceptable finish standards.
  • Use appropriate hand tools, measuring devices, soldering equipment, and powered tools to complete repairs accurately and safely.
  • Document or communicate repair findings, recurring defects, and quality concerns to Quality, Manufacturing, and department leadership.
  • Maintain tools, equipment, and the immediate work area in a clean, safe, and organized condition.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent required.
  • Minimum of 1–2 years of guitar repair, guitar manufacturing, production inspection, luthier, or comparable hands-on instrument experience preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of guitar and bass construction, setup, woodworking, finishing, and common repair techniques.
  • Knowledge and experience with fret leveling, fret dressing, nut work, instrument setup, and component adjustment.
  • Ability to use calipers, micrometers, feeler gauges, rulers, digital multimeters, soldering equipment, buffing equipment, and common guitar-building hand tools.
  • Ability to read and apply product specifications, quality criteria, measurements, and work instructions.
  • Guitar and/or bass playing experience and the ability to evaluate instrument functionality and playability.
  • Strong attention to detail, troubleshooting ability, and verbal and written communication skills.
