SENIOR LEVELENGINEERING

Huawei's Ohm Research Center (Nuremberg) is responsible for Advanced Technology Research, Architecture Evolution Design and Strategic Technology Planning.

The Power Conversion Technology Laboratory within the Huawei Ohm Research Center (Nuremberg) is responsible for Advanced Digital Power Technology Research, Architecture Evolution Design and Strategic Technology Planning, and plays an important role in the Huawei Digital Power business in the design and development of power converters and control systems for applications such as PV Solar & Battery Energy Storage Field, Data Centers, Electric Vehicle, and Embedded Power Supply.

Join us as a

Expert – Medium Voltage Power Conversion System & Control Architecture (m/f/d)

Your mission

  • Lead the research and development of control system architectures for next-generation medium-voltage power conversion systems, targeting applications in data centers, solar PV, energy storage and other emerging energy scenarios, including SST, STATCOM and E-STATCOM technologies.

  • Define the system-level control hierarchy and functional architecture, covering supervisory control, power control, converter-level control, protection, monitoring and fault management.

  • Architect the control hardware and software platforms, including centralized and distributed controllers, functional partitioning, computing resources, real-time execution and system interfaces.

  • Design the communication and synchronization architecture across controllers, power cells, converter modules and system-level equipment, ensuring deterministic operation, reliability and scalability.

  • Define system-level protection, fault handling, redundancy and fault-tolerant operation strategies, including coordination between control, communication, power electronics and protection hardware.

  • Guide the development and integration of key control functions, including active/reactive power control, voltage/current regulation, energy and capacitor balancing, multilevel modulation and grid synchronization.

  • Evaluate system-level dynamic performance, stability and interactions between converter modules, control layers, communication networks and external power systems.

  • Lead system integration and validation from architecture design, simulation and HIL testing through prototype commissioning, product qualification and field deployment.

  • Drive technical decisions and establish reusable control architectures, design guidelines and engineering methodologies across multiple medium-voltage product platforms.

Your areas of expertise

  • Deep expertise in system-level control architecture for medium-voltage or high-power conversion systems, with a strong understanding of hierarchical and distributed control concepts.

  • Strong knowledge of converter control systems, including supervisory control, power regulation, multilevel converter control, synchronization, energy balancing and coordinated system operation.

  • Proven experience in control hardware and embedded software architecture, including controller platform selection, functional partitioning, real-time scheduling and hardware-software interfaces.

  • Solid understanding of industrial real-time communication, distributed synchronization, communication latency, reliability and fault-tolerant system design.

  • Strong knowledge of system-level protection coordination, redundancy, fault detection, isolation, recovery and degraded-mode operation.

  • Practical experience in system modelling, control architecture validation, HIL testing, power prototype commissioning and troubleshooting of complex converter systems.

  • Ability to lead cross-disciplinary technical decisions involving power electronics, control algorithms, embedded software, controller hardware, communication and system engineering.

  • Demonstrated ownership of the control system architecture of at least one relevant industrial product, from architecture definition and system integration through validation and field deployment or series production.

  • Experience with SST, STATCOM, E-STATCOM, HVDC, medium-voltage drives, utility-scale energy storage PCS or comparable modular power conversion systems is highly preferred.

  • Hands-on experience with distributed control platforms, industrial real-time communication, redundancy design and system-level commissioning is highly valued.
