Position Summary

Seton College invites applications for a College Persistence and Learning Specialist to strengthen academic readiness, persistence, and degree completion. The College Persistence and Learning Specialist will support and provide direct, high touch learning support to current Seton students. Working in close partnership with faculty, academic leadership, advising, and student-support staff, the Specialist will focus on the “how” of college success: helping students develop the learning strategies, executive-functioning skills, academic habits, and self-efficacy needed to succeed in rigorous college-level coursework. The position will also work closely with faculty to develop scalable resources, support professional development, and contribute to a culture of academic rigor and support.

Primary Responsibilities

Teaching and Learning

  • Develop scalable tools, learning resources, and programming that strengthen a college-wide culture of academic rigor, engagement, persistence, and support.
  • Collaborate with faculty and academic leadership to identify patterns in student learning needs and develop interventions.
  • Partner with the Associate Dean to support college-wide assessment and intervention efforts.
  • Lead faculty workshops and professional development.
  • Maintain appropriate records of student learning outcomes and contribute to assessment of academic support initiatives, including retention, credit attainment, GPA, academic standing, persistence, and degree progression.

Academic Intervention

  • Provide individualized and small-group academic coaching focused on executive functioning, time management, goal setting, study strategies, note-taking, critical reading, test preparation, and self regulated learning.
  • Identify and support students experiencing academic difficulty through proactive outreach, early intervention, individualized learning plans, and structured progress monitoring.
  • Facilitate student study groups and structured learning sessions.
  • Oversee and develop Supplemental Instruction (SI), including recruitment, training, supervision, and support of peer leaders and alignment of SI with course and faculty needs.
  • Partner with faculty, advisors, and student-support staff to coordinate timely academic interventions for students at risk of Academic Warning, Recovery, Suspension, or other barriers to satisfactory academic progress.

Other Duties

  • Attend faculty and staff meetings and participate in College-wide student success initiatives.
  • Perform other duties related to student learning, persistence, and academic success as assigned.
  • Some evening and weekend responsibilities may be required.

Requirements

  • Master’s degree required in education, psychology, teaching and learning, reading/literacy, higher education, counseling, or a closely related field; EdD, PhD, or other terminal degree preferred.
  • At least five years of relevant experience in teaching, academic intervention, student success, or a related area.
  • Systems-level thinker with demonstrated knowledge of learning strategies, executive functioning, academic skill development, and evidence-informed approaches to student persistence.
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively with first-generation college students from diverse cultural and educational backgrounds.
  • Experience providing individualized academic coaching or intervention and facilitating workshops, study groups, or other group-based learning supports.
  • Strong collaboration and communication skills, including the ability to partner effectively with faculty, advisors, and student-support professionals.
  • Experience with academic interventions and multi-tiered student-support models is strongly preferred.
