Join the future of news We’re on a mission to deliver riveting storytelling for all of America. At The Washington Post, you’ll help reinvent news. Our work is driven by a deep investigative spirit and enhanced by innovation to bring audiences closer to the stories that matter most. About Our Team The Washington Post is powered by the passion and talent of our people. It takes all of us to reinvent news. Beyond our award-winning News and Opinions teams, we work across many departments, including Brand & Events, Communications, Customer Care, Engineering & Product, Finance, Human Resources, Legal, Marketing & Advertising, Print Operations, and Sales. Why This Role Matters The Washington Post’s FP&A department is seeking a Senior Financial Analyst with expertise in financial modeling, planning, and analysis. This role requires advanced Excel skills but also a sense of creativity and curiosity in the evolving operation of a modern media organization. The position will focus on supporting the sales incentive and commission calculation process and helping department leaders have concise understanding of their team’s incentive build. You are passionate about automation and continuously seek opportunities to streamline processes and apply AI to solve problems in innovative ways. You strive to be impactful, aligning your work with the broader goals of supporting quality journalism and business sustainability. You are communicative, capable of building strong relationships across departments and simplifying complex ideas for a variety of audiences. You have strong attention to detail and the ability to work independently, ensuring accuracy in financial analysis and reliability in the deliverables for senior leadership. How You'll Support the Mission Serve as primary FP&A liaison to the HR compensation department, helping to ensure clarity across incentive plans for existing and newly hired employees. Calculate quarterly and annual sales incentives across all sales teams and distribute payout statements to sales reps on a quarterly basis. Work closely with our Financial Accounting partners to provide incentive payout estimates/accruals and quarterly true-ups. Provide regular ad hoc financial analysis to finance leaders, and cross-functional teams to support strategic planning and operational decisions. Proactively identify and highlight opportunities for financial process and reporting improvements by partnering with other members of the finance team. The Skills and Experience You Bring 5+ years of financial planning, modeling, and analysis experience. Bachelor’s degree in finance, accounting, business, or related field. High proficiency in utilizing MS Excel. Comfortable with large volumes of complex data and presenting findings to senior management. Proven presentation and project management skills. Strong interpersonal and communication skills. The ability to work effectively and independently with all levels of management. Collaboration makes us stronger. That’s why our offices are designed with open layouts, modern technology, and easy access to transportation. With certain exceptions for newsgathering and business travel, we work on-site five days a week.
