Job Expectations We’re looking for people based in Cairns who enjoy practical, hands‑on work and are open to trying something new. You might come from a trade, technical background, or any role where you work with your hands. People with experience in plumbing, carpentry, electrical work, construction, civils, hospitality, customer service, manufacturing, and similar industries have all thrived in this position. Safety is at the core of everything we do, and we’re looking for people who value working safely, following procedures, and looking out for their teammates and customers. If this sounds like you, nbn would love to support you as you grow into a Customer Field Technician within our internal workforce. We value the skills you already have and will help you build the ones you need. Join us in shaping Australia’s digital future. In this hands‑on, customer‑focused role, you’ll be helping connect homes and communities, making a real difference every day. A bit about your role As a Customer Field Technician in Cairns, you’ll work independently to complete a variety of tasks across different nbn technologies. Your work will include installations, repairs, maintenance, and supporting customers in their homes or businesses. Your day might involve installing copper or fibre cabling, setting up customer equipment, identifying and fixing faults, and ensuring customers feel supported and informed throughout the process. Working hours are between 7am and 7pm, with flexibility based on business needs. You’ll receive full training, all required tools, and ongoing support so you feel confident and set up for success. Safety is a fundamental part of this role—whether you're handling equipment, working in customers’ premises, or completing technical tasks, you’ll be expected to consistently apply safe work practices and follow nbn’s safety procedures. A bit about you Previous experience in telecommunications isn’t needed — we’ll teach you everything you need to know. What matters most is that you enjoy hands‑on work, like solving problems, and feel comfortable speaking with customers. You might come from a trade, a hands‑on technical job, or a customer‑focused role. Experience in fields like plumbing, carpentry, electrical work, labouring, construction, mechanical work, hospitality, or manufacturing is highly valued. You’ll do well in this role if you enjoy working independently, managing your workload, and taking pride in delivering quality work. A strong commitment to safety, clear communication skills, and a current, clean Driver’s Licence are essential. Life at nbn To be part of nbn is to be part of something bigger.
