We are worldwide technical leaders in Integrated Power Semiconductors and Systems Power delivery architectures. At MPS, we cultivate creativity, are passionate about sustainability, and are committed to providing leading-edge products and innovation to our customers. Our portfolio of technology helps power our world ---come join our team and see how YOU can make a difference. Job Description: Position Summary: The Senior Power Electronics Engineer will be responsible for the end-to-end design, development, and validation of isolated power conversion products. The ideal candidate will possess deep theoretical knowledge and hands-on experience in power supply design, from initial concept and magnetics design to prototyping, testing, and high-volume manufacturing transfer. A strong focus on safety, reliability, and electromagnetic compatibility (EMC) is paramount. Key Responsibilities: 1. Architect, design, and develop high-performance, isolated DC-DC power converters (200V-10kV working voltage) and power systems within a power range of 100W to 10kW. 2. Design and specify custom transformers and inductors, optimizing for performance, cost, and manufacturability, with a focus on both galvanic and capacitive isolation techniques to meet safety and noise requirements. 3. Ensure all designs comply with stringent international safety requirements for telecom, AI, ATE, and satellite applications (e.g., UL/IEC/EN 60950-1, 62368-1, and specific space-level standards). 4. Interface with and program onboard microprocessors and system managers for power supply control, monitoring, fault logging, and system communication (e.g., PMBus, I2C). 5. Design for Electromagnetic Compatibility (EMC), developing strategies to mitigate EMI and conducted noise to meet CISPR/FCC Class A and B standards. 6. Develop and implement current sharing techniques for multi-phase and parallelable power modules to achieve scalable power solutions. 7. Lead the technical execution of projects, including schematic capture, PCB layout supervision, prototyping, and validation testing. Hands-on experience with module and PCB assembly, rework, and debugging is essential. 8. Perform detailed failure analysis, identify common failure modes (e.g., transformer saturation, FET avalanche, gate drive issues, thermal runaway), and implement robust design prevention strategies. 9. Design and execute validation test plans, including the use of Automated Test Equipment (ATE) for production testing and characterization. 10. Collaborate cross-functionally with mechanical engineering, firmware, manufacturing and the business management teams to ensure a successful product launch. Required Qualifications & Experience: 1. B.S. (M.S. preferred) in Electrical Engineering or a related field. 2. 7+ years of direct experience in the design and development of isolated switch-mode power supplies (SMPS). 3. Must-Have Technical Skills: 1) Proven expertise in transformer design for high-frequency power conversion, including core selection, winding techniques, and isolation barrier design. 2) In-depth understanding of galvanic and capacitive isolation standards, design practices, and validation methods. 3) Strong knowledge of microprocessor/microcontroller integration for power control, including programming and debugging skills (C/C++ or similar). 4) Demonstrable experience designing to meet safety and EMC requirements for Telecom, AI, ATE, and/or Satellite applications. 5) Proficiency in simulating, modeling, and mitigating EMI and conducted noise. 6) Hands-on experience with power supply prototyping, module and PCB assembly, soldering, and debugging. 7) Understand all DC/DC architectures and topologies: ex. Buck-boost, flyback, current mode, COT, etc. 8) Familiarity with current sharing techniques and N+1 redundant power architectures. 9) Experience with power levels ranging from 100W to 10kW. 4. Proficiency with schematic capture and PCB layout tools (e.g., Altium Designer, Cadence). 5. Experience with power electronics simulation tools (e.g., PSIM, Simplis). Desired Qualifications: 1. Experience with wide-bandgap semiconductors (GaN, SiC). 2. Knowledge of thermal management and mechanical packaging for high-density power supplies. 3. Experience with high-voltage design (> 1kV). 4. Familiarity with reliability prediction models (e.g., MIL-HDBK-217, Telcordia). Monolithic Power Systems, Inc.
