PEOPLE & OPS
At KTVQ, we believe local journalism has the power to inform, connect, and strengthen the communities we serve. As a Producer, you'll play a critical role in shaping the stories that matter most to viewers across Montana, creating compelling newscasts and digital content that keep audiences engaged and informed. You'll collaborate with talented journalists, anchors, editors, and newsroom leaders to deliver accurate, impactful coverage every day. This role is ideal for a passionate storyteller who thrives in a fast-paced environment, loves local news, and can confidently make decisions under deadline pressure. If you're ready to help lead a newsroom dedicated to serving its community, we'd love to hear from you. WHAT YOU'LL DO: Develop and organize daily newscasts and local programming. Write compelling stories, teases, and showcase content that engage viewers. Collaborate with reporters, anchors, assignment editors, and newsroom leadership to determine coverage priorities. Advance stories through research, planning, and creative storytelling approaches. Enhance content with graphics, video, data, and station branding elements. Make timely editorial decisions in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment. Oversee live broadcasts and adjust content as breaking news develops. Perform desktop editing to ensure polished and accurate presentations. Publish and manage content across station websites and digital platforms. Support newsroom operations and contribute to special projects as assigned. WHAT YOU'LL NEED: Bachelor's degree in Journalism, Communications, or a related field preferred, or an equivalent combination of education and professional experience. Two or more years of experience in a newsroom, content production, or related field preferred. Understanding of journalistic standards, ethics, and applicable media laws preferred. WHAT YOU'LL BRING: A strong passion for local news and an understanding of community issues, events, and trends. Exceptional writing, grammar, spelling, and storytelling skills. Strong editorial judgment and the ability to identify and develop impactful stories. Excellent interpersonal and collaborative communication skills. Outstanding organizational skills with attention to detail. Ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment while managing multiple priorities and deadlines. Self-motivation, initiative, and a willingness to adapt to changing news conditions. Working knowledge of journalistic ethics, libel laws, and newsroom best practices. Experience using web analytics and digital audience insights to inform content decisions. Proficiency with newsroom computer systems; experience with Microsoft Office is a plus. Flexibility to work evenings, weekends, holidays, and other hours as news coverage demands. OUR TEAM: The KTVQ newsroom is made up of passionate journalists, storytellers, and content creators committed to serving viewers throughout the region. We value collaboration, creativity, curiosity, and accountability. Our team brings together diverse backgrounds, experiences, and perspectives, creating an environment where great ideas thrive and community-focused journalism makes a real impact.
