The Aerodynamics Engineer will: Apply knowledge of Earth entry and abort aerodynamics to human-rated spacecraft. Utilize Aerodynamic CFD solvers for spacecraft entry analyses Create CFD grids utilizing grid generation software like Pointwise or the Chimera Grid Tools. Create CFD visualizations utilizing tools like Tecplot, Fieldview, or Paraview. Analyze and interpret ground test and flight data from aerodynamic and aerothermal perspectives. Perform detailed aerodynamic analyses over a wide range of flight regimes Perform other duties as required. Requisition Qualifications: Typically requires a minimum of a bachelor's degree in Engineering and may be expected to have a related master's or higher degree and normally possess 15+ years of related experience. Expertise in aerodynamics in subsonic through hypersonic flight regimes Experience with a NASA Aerodynamics CFD solver (CART3D, FUN3D, OVERFLOW) Expert in entry and abort vehicles including aerodynamics, trajectories, loads and performance analysis Excellent communication skills and the ability to work in a team environment consisting of NASA civil servants and various contractor employees.
