About Us: Working at Target means helping all families discover the joy of everyday life. We bring that vision to life through our values and culture. Learn more about Target here. As a lead engineer, you serve as the technical anchor for the engineering team that supports a product. You create, own and are responsible for the application architecture that best serves the product in its functional and non-functional needs. You identify and drive architectural changes to accelerate feature development or improve the quality of service (or both). You have deep and broad engineering skills and are capable of standing up an architecture in its whole on your own, but you choose to influence a wider team by acting as a “force multiplier”. Join the team that brings Target guests their “shopping and saving sidekick” – the guest facing Target Android and iOS shopping app. About This Team: The Fulfillment team builds mobile experiences that help guests shop for the items they need and complete their orders with confidence. As a Lead iOS Engineer, you will help shape the Reorder and Buy It Again experience, making it easier for guests to find previously purchased products and shop for them again. You’ll partner with Product, UX, backend, and other engineering teams to deliver reliable, intuitive features within Target’s flagship app. As a Lead iOS Engineer on the Fulfillment team, you will: • Lead the design, development, and delivery of native iOS features for the Reorder and Buy It Again experience. • Develop clean, scalable, and well-tested Swift code using modern iOS frameworks and patterns, including SwiftUI and The Composable Architecture (TCA). • Own technical designs and architectural decisions, balancing guest needs, business objectives, maintainability, performance, and reliability. • Drive engineering work from discovery and requirements through implementation, testing, release, and ongoing support. • Coach and mentor engineers, raising the quality of code, design, testing, and technical decision-making across the team. • Collaborate closely with Product, UX, backend, analytics, and partner engineering teams to deliver cohesive guest experiences. • Manage complex cross-team coordination, technical dependencies, and delivery risks. • Evaluate engineering solutions and clearly communicate trade-offs to technical and non-technical partners. • Identify opportunities to improve app architecture, developer productivity, observability, and quality of service. • Use instrumentation and analytics to understand feature performance and inform future improvements. Core responsibilities of this job are described within this job description. Job duties may change at any time due to business needs. About you: • 4 year degree or equivalent experience • 7+ years of software development experience with at least one full cycle implementation • 4+ years of experience developing apps for iOS • Deep experience with Swift and modern iOS development, including SwiftUI, UIKit, Swift Concurrency, Xcode, and Instruments • Experience following best practices in developing iOS apps at scale on large, distributed teams, including modular app architecture, frameworks, build pipeline, on-prem and cloud CI/CD, automated testing, observability, code review, static analysis, etc. • Deep expertise in Apple development, tools, and frameworks • Experience with authenticated sessions using OAuth and authentication tokens • Experience developing highly successful apps that enjoy wide scale distribution • Experience with design/development/use of analytics solutions • Experience with agile methodology • AI-assisted coding, developer productivity tools • Experience with test-driven development and software test automation • Excellent debugging, performance and optimization skills • Excellent knowledge of working with dynamic data using services (e.g., JSON, REST APIs, etc.) • Experience distributing mobile applications via public app stores and/or enterprise channels • Communicates and coordinates with project team, partners, and stakeholders • Maintains deep technical knowledge within areas of expertise • Stays current with new and evolving technologies via formal training and self-directed education This position will operate as a Hybrid/Flex for Your Day work arrangement based on Target’s needs.
