Role Overview & Impact
Some of the most valuable technical work doesn’t happen in the spotlight. It happens in the engine room, keeping the foundation of an entire platform rock-solid.
At Visma e-conomic, we’re looking for a Site Reliability Engineer to join our SRE team. You’ll help keep a business-critical SaaS platform performant, resilient, and always on for the 300,000+ customers who run their business on it.
Our foundations are solid. The work is now shifting toward operating and scaling them, and toward a more automated, agent-assisted way of running operations. If you like turning firefighting into engineering and cutting toil through automation, this one’s for you.
If this got you interested, have a sneak peek. ✌️
The SRE space
Our SRE team owns the reliability, availability, and co-owns the security of e-conomic’s infrastructure, from our Kubernetes clusters and Network setup to CI/CD pipelines, environment management, observability, and on-call incident response. Our mission is to improve the reliability of the e-conomic Platform while empowering product teams to deliver and operate software efficiently and reliably.
We maintain a cloud-native platform, including components such as Kubernetes clusters, databases, caching systems and message queues, while leaning on IaC and observability tooling to keep the system stable and consistent. We keep a growing library of runbooks and guides so the team can act fast when something breaks.
You’ll work alongside experienced SREs, balancing keeping production and staging environments healthy with driving improvements that make the whole development and engineering organisation more effective. We value reliability and security over velocity, and we’re pragmatic about finding the right balance between shipping and doing things right. You will be joining a seasoned team, so you’ll get strong mentorship from day one as you grow into full ownership of the reliability work and a place in the on-call rotation.
The role
As a SRE, you’re responsible for keeping our business-critical infrastructure reliable and scalable. The groundwork has been laid, so your focus is operating, improving, and scaling it rather than building from scratch. You’ll be mentored by senior colleagues and grow from running the playbook to improving it: spotting weak points, automating toil, and pitching the next reliability improvement. From day one, you’ll be supported to take ownership of your corner of the platform.
Your team
This role is based in Portugal, working as part of a highly collaborative, distributed team as we have people in Denmark, Romania, Finland and Portugal. Most of the team works remotely, with the Denmark-based members meeting in person a couple of times a week, so being comfortable communicating and troubleshooting over Slack is essential. We pair up and huddle often, and we’ll mobilize the whole team during a major incident. Above all, we’re a team: we support and care for each other, and we all strive to achieve our common goal of making e-conomic as stable as it can be.
What we expect from you:
Reliability & Performance: Ensure the reliability, availability, and performance of our cloud infrastructure, i.e. Kubernetes clusters and deployments, networking and traffic management, edge computing, resource access control, and much more.
Deployment Orchestration: Build, maintain, and improve our CI/CD pipelines e.g ArgoCD, GitHub Actions alongside our Development Experience team and defining sensible defaults and templates for product development teams;
Proactive Monitoring: Monitoring platform health through Datadog by setting up observability, dashboards, and alerts to catch issues before they become incidents;
Operational Excellence: Responding to production incidents as part of a 24/7 on-call rotation, and building the runbooks and improvements that prevent recurrence;
Security & Access: Manage IAM, secrets, and security configuration alongside our Security team across our infrastructure and third-party services;
Developer Enablement: Supporting product development teams when they face infrastructure issues, sharing knowledge, and helping them operate their services reliably.
What you bring to the table:
This is a mid-level role for someone with 2 to 3 years in a SRE, DevOps, Platform, or Infrastructure role, or 2 to 3 years as a developer with solid operations exposure.
Solid experience with several of the following, and an interest in the rest:
Infrastructure as Code (Terraform)
Containers and orchestration (Kubernetes)
CI/CD pipelines
Observability and monitoring (Datadog or similar)
Relational and NoSQL databases
Queuing and caching systems
Cloud networking and security (IAM, secrets management)
Programming and scripting (e.g. C#, Python)
Overall skills we are looking for and appreciate:
Proficiency in English.
Previous experience with a major cloud provider (GCP, AWS, or Azure).
You stay calm when faced with an unfamiliar system failure, and you’re comfortable troubleshooting alongside the owning team until it’s resolved.
You thrive in ambiguity. We can’t always predict the next incident, and task descriptions won’t always be fully spelled out.
You can effectively collaborate with people in a distributed environment using async communication. You enjoy collaborating in small to mid sized groups and communicating async over Slack.
Ready to join a 24/7 on-call rotation.
What you can expect from us:
In our nordic-inspired work environment, we appreciate flexibility, autonomy, and a collaborative spirit. If you're someone who enjoys getting hands-on, work/life balance, values learning and finds joy in sharing experiences with colleagues.. you're in the right place!
We love that you bring your ideas to the table: You will be part of a culture that favours experiments and value initiative, so it’s easy to get your ideas heard.
Make an impact from day 1: We want you to experience meaning as much as you experience mastery through creating value that impacts people's everyday lives. And you get to influence how to go about creating that value with full autonomy of your work.
Flexibility at all stages of life: Work is an important part of life. Yet, we know that you are much more than your job. We make room for people at all stages of life.
We invest in your competence: When you step into Visma, opportunities from A-Z awaits. You will be met by engaged leaders that care for and support you, and take part in competence sharing and learning networks across Visma within.
We embrace diversity and foster an inclusive environment: Our team thrives on different backgrounds, experiences, and ideas, creating a welcoming space where everyone belongs and can contribute their best.
Above all, we are a team: Team spirit is key for us to deliver on our promises to people and society, but most importantly; to form a culture where people support and care for each other as much as we have tons of fun together
Total compensation: 30k - 50k EUR (annual)
We celebrate a culture where everyone's uniqueness contributes to our collective success. Feel free to share a bit about yourself, your interests and what makes you thrive both at work and in life. We're looking forward to learning more about you!
