Resource Environmental Solutions

Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, United States

Solutions Analyst I.

JUNIOR LEVELSALES & MARKETING

At RES, we’re looking for purpose-driven individuals who are passionate about restoration and sustainability, and who want their work to make a lasting environmental impact. Our team members go above and beyond, bringing initiative, integrity, and a strong work ethic to every project. Collaboration is key—we thrive on teamwork, open communication, and diverse perspectives. In a field that constantly changes, we value those who are resilient, adaptable, and resourceful in the face of challenges. If you're intellectually curious, eager to learn, and ready to help restore ecosystems and protect natural resources, you’ll find your place here.

Environmental Solutions Analyst I

Resource Environmental Solutions (RES) is seeking an Environmental Solutions Analyst I to support the identification, evaluation, and development of environmental markets across our mitigation, water quality, endangered species, reclamation, and related solution lines.

This position will work at the intersection of environmental research, data analytics, GIS, regulatory intelligence, market development, and business strategy. The analyst will help RES identify where to invest, which opportunities to pursue, and how to position our capabilities with clients, agencies, consultants, partners, and regional teams.

The ideal candidate is an early-career professional who brings strong analytical and communication skills, an interest in environmental solutions and infrastructure, and the ability to translate technical information into clear, actionable recommendations.

Why You’ll Love This Job

You’ll help shape RES’s future markets

Your research and analysis will directly support how RES evaluates and pursues new commercial opportunities across the United States.

You’ll work across disciplines

You will collaborate with teams in sales, science, engineering, construction, operations, finance, policy, regulatory affairs, and regional leadership. This position provides exposure to the full lifecycle of environmental project development, from identifying an opportunity through funding, procurement, design, implementation, and long-term stewardship.

You’ll combine technical analysis with strategic thinking

You will use data, mapping, market research, regulatory information, and environmental knowledge to help the organization make informed decisions about markets, clients, projects, and resource investments.

You’ll develop valuable professional skills

This role will strengthen your abilities in data analysis, GIS, market research, technical and executive-level writing, dashboard development, stakeholder engagement, project evaluation, and strategic communication.

What You’ll Do

  • Research environmental markets, regulatory programs, agency priorities, funding sources, procurement methods, legislation, competitors, clients, and regional opportunities.
  • Identify and evaluate potential environmental projects across RES’s mitigation, water quality, endangered species, reclamation, and related solution lines.
  • Analyze opportunities based on client need, funding availability, regulatory pathway, procurement method, schedule, technical feasibility, risk, margin potential, and strategic fit.
  • Conduct site screening, spatial analysis, suitability assessments, and geographic market mapping using GIS tools.
  • Analyze environmental, infrastructure, market, financial, and operational data to identify trends, risks, opportunities, and areas for growth.
  • Support the development of market assessments, opportunity evaluations, business cases, white papers, presentations, dashboards, scorecards, and internal strategy documents.
  • Build, maintain, and improve reports and dashboards using tools such as Excel, Power BI, Tableau, GIS, or similar platforms.
  • Support the development and maintenance of qualified opportunity information, including project location, client or agency, scope, funding source, procurement path, estimated value, timing, stage, probability, next steps, and assigned resources.
  • Assist regional sales and strategy teams with market intelligence, client research, opportunity qualification, proposal development, and follow-up activities.
  • Research and summarize environmental regulations, permitting requirements, public programs, grant opportunities, and agency processes.
  • Help identify potential clients, partners, consultants, landowners, infrastructure owners, and other stakeholders.
  • Translate technical, regulatory, and analytical findings into clear recommendations for nontechnical audiences.
  • Coordinate with internal subject-matter experts to validate information and develop complete, accurate deliverables.
  • Maintain organized project files, data sources, assumptions, analytical methods, and supporting documentation.
  • Participate in meetings with regulatory agencies, consultants, clients, regional teams, and other stakeholders as appropriate.
  • Support cross-regional collaboration by identifying RES capabilities, resources, and expertise that can be applied to opportunities outside a team’s primary geography.
  • Perform other related duties in support of RES’s environmental markets and strategic growth objectives.

What Your Day-to-Day Might Look Like

  • You may begin your day reviewing project opportunities, researching environmental regulations, evaluating agency programs, or analyzing market activity. You could then conduct a GIS-based suitability assessment, review a funding or procurement opportunity, analyze project or market data, or help prepare a recommendation for a regional or executive leadership team.
  • Throughout the week, you may:
  • Build or update an Excel, Power BI, Tableau, or GIS-based dashboard.
  • Analyze a large dataset to identify trends or decision points.
  • Map potential restoration, mitigation, reclamation, or infrastructure opportunities.
  • Research a regulatory or funding pathway.
  • Evaluate a client, agency, market, or competitor.
  • Assist with a proposal, white paper, market assessment, or executive presentation.
  • Participate in a cross-functional meeting with sales, science, engineering, finance, policy, or operations.
  • Convert research into a clear recommendation regarding whether RES should invest in, advance, pause, or exit an opportunity.
  • This work is fast-paced, collaborative, and rooted in RES’s mission to restore and protect natural resources while creating durable environmental and community outcomes.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in environmental science, sustainability, planning, engineering, economics, business, public policy, data analytics, geography, or a related field. Equivalent combinations of education and experience may be considered.
  • Zero to three years of relevant professional, academic, internship, research, or project-based experience.
  • Strong analytical, organizational, research, and problem-solving skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to manipulate, summarize, and interpret data.
  • Strong technical and creative writing ability.
  • Ability to communicate technical or analytical information clearly to both technical and nontechnical audiences.
  • Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
  • Working knowledge of Adobe Acrobat Pro or comparable document-production tools.
  • Ability to manage multiple workstreams, organize information, meet deadlines, and maintain attention to detail.
  • Interest in environmental markets, natural resource restoration, sustainability, infrastructure, regulatory programs, and nature-based solutions.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with colleagues across disciplines, regions, and levels of the organization.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Environmental consulting, planning, engineering, sustainability, infrastructure, energy, reclamation, water resources, or natural resource management experience.
  • Experience with brownfield redevelopment, abandoned mine land reclamation, landfill remediation, water quality, environmental infrastructure, or restoration planning.
  • Experience with environmental permitting, regulatory research, or environmental policy, including CWA Section 404/401, ESA, NPDES, stormwater, AML, brownfields, mitigation, or related programs.
  • Experience with GIS tools such as ArcGIS Online, ArcGIS Pro, QGIS, or comparable platforms.
  • Experience with data analysis or programming tools such as SQL, R, Python, or comparable languages.
  • Experience with data visualization or dashboard platforms such as Power BI, Tableau, Apache Superset, or comparable tools.
  • Experience with spatial suitability analysis, site screening, market mapping, or geographic opportunity assessment.
  • Experience with life-cycle assessment, cost-benefit analysis, technoeconomic analysis, scenario modeling, or sensitivity analysis.
  • Familiarity with public infrastructure funding, grants, federal or state agency programs, environmental procurement, or legislative research.
  • Experience evaluating project feasibility based on funding, schedule, technical requirements, regulatory pathway, procurement method, risk, or strategic fit.
  • Experience working with large or complex datasets from multiple sources.
  • Experience developing executive-level reports, presentations, white papers, dashboards, or market assessments.
  • Experience working in a project-based, consulting, academic research, or cross-functional environment.

You Will Thrive in This Role If You

  • Are passionate about sustainability, environmental markets, restoration, and nature-based solutions.
  • Are curious and enjoy digging into data, regulations, funding programs, and market information.
  • Can move comfortably between detailed research and higher-level strategic thinking.
  • Communicate clearly and confidently in writing, presentations, and meetings.
  • Are highly organized and detail-oriented when managing multiple assignments.
  • Enjoy finding patterns, asking thoughtful questions, and developing practical recommendations.
  • Can explain complex information in a clear, concise, and useful way.
  • Take ownership of assignments and follow work through to completion.
  • Work effectively in a collaborative, cross-functional, and geographically distributed environment.
