We are a premier general contractor based in the San Francisco Bay Area, specializing in architecturally significant, high-end residential construction. Our projects include modern custom homes, historic renovations, complex remodels, and retrofit work. Every home we build reflects exceptional craftsmanship and thoughtful design.

As a Project Manager, you will work closely with a Superintendent to co-lead both field and office operations. You will be responsible for planning, budgeting, team coordination, and client communication, ensuring each project is executed with precision and care. This is a great opportunity for a proactive leader who thrives in fast-paced, design-driven environments.

Project Management and Scheduling

  • Lead project kickoff, contract buyout, cost tracking, billing, labor projections, change orders, and quality control
  • Develop and manage project schedules, including construction sequencing, durations, and look-ahead plans
  • Coordinate and document subcontractor scopes, submittals, RFIs, and lead times
  • Monitor budget and scope to ensure work is completed on time and under budget
  • Provide clear, consistent communication around project decisions and changes

Risk Management

  • Identify and mitigate risks to budget and schedule
  • Prepare and manage construction schedules, submittal logs, and meeting agendas
  • Lead bi-weekly internal meetings and OAC meetings with consultants and clients
  • Track scope changes and ensure cost and schedule implications are addressed in a timely manner

Client and Team Relationships

  • Serve as the main liaison between the client, architect, consultants, and internal teams
  • Foster professional, solutions-driven communication throughout the project lifecycle
  • Notify leadership of any issues that could impact project delivery or client satisfaction
  • Represent MatPel’s values and contribute to company-wide goals and team culture

Document Control and Closeout

  • Maintain accurate and current documentation, including drawings, submittals, RFIs, and change orders
  • Manage digital and hardcopy closeout materials, including as-built drawings, warranties, and manuals
  • Participate in After Action Reviews to assess performance against budget and scope
  • Support and mentor Assistant Project Managers and oversee the accuracy of their work

Qualifications and Skills

  • Minimum of 5 years of experience managing high-end residential construction projects
  • Experience with project budgets ranging from $5M to $40M
  • Bachelor’s degree preferred; architectural or engineering background is a plus
  • Strong understanding of contract language, building codes, and construction technologies
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, Procore, and Bluebeam is required
  • Experience with MS Project or Smartsheet is a strong plus.
  • Ability to read and interpret architectural drawings and technical documentation
  • Highly organized, detail-oriented, and self-directed
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment
  • Collaborative and professional leadership style

Physical Requirements and Work Environment

  • Ability to work in both office and active construction site settings
  • Must be able to sit at a desk for extended periods, with intermittent standing, walking, bending, and climbing
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds
  • Comfortable working in varied environmental conditions including heat, cold, and exposure to dust or airborne particles
