FULL TIME
  • Job Title: Transport & Logistics Manager
  • Type: Full Time, Permanent
  • Salary: £64,000.00

About LondonEnergy

At LondonEnergy, we’re proud of our vital role in managing North London’s waste and protecting the environment. As part of the team, you’ll already know that we handle and process 750,000 tonnes of waste each year, making us the second largest waste contract in the UK.

By processing household waste at our facility, we produce enough waste from energy to power 80,000 homes every year and recycle 70% of items through our Reuse and Recycling Centres.

About the role

We have an exciting opportunity for a Transport & Logistics Manager to join our Transport & Logistics team, based at Hawley Road, Edmonton.

Reporting to the RRC & Transport Operations Manager, you will be responsible for managing all company transport operations, ensuring the safe, efficient and cost-effective movement of materials across our sites. You will lead a team of approximately 40 drivers, supported by transport managers, supervisors and planners, overseeing fleet compliance, operational budgets and service delivery.

You will also manage the external transport yard at Hawley Road, ensuring high standards of site safety, security, maintenance and compliance. Working closely with internal departments, contractors and third-party hauliers, you will drive operational improvements, maintain regulatory standards and support LondonEnergy’s commitment to reducing carbon emissions.

Key Responsibilities

  • Transport Operations & Leadership: Lead and develop a team of approximately 40 drivers, alongside transport managers, supervisors and planners, ensuring effective vehicle utilisation, resource allocation and delivery of operational requirements.
  • Budget & Performance Management: Manage transport expenditure within agreed budgets, support budget forecasting and capital expenditure planning, and identify opportunities to improve operational efficiency, reduce costs and enhance performance.
  • Fleet Management & Compliance: Oversee all aspects of fleet maintenance, vehicle inspections, tachographs, telematics, tyre management, vehicle security and safety equipment, ensuring compliance with operator licensing requirements and relevant transport legislation.
  • Contract & Stakeholder Management: Ensure compliance with the NLWA contract and other relevant client agreements, maintain effective relationships with internal departments, suppliers and third-party hauliers, and support procurement activities, including transport tenders.
  • Health, Safety & Accreditation: Ensure transport operations and site activities comply with company policies, health and safety legislation, relevant accreditations and safe systems of work, maintaining audit readiness and ensuring accreditations are renewed on time.
  • Site & Yard Management: Oversee the Hawley Road transport yard, ensuring site security, maintenance, fire safety, contractor compliance, appropriate storage of hazardous substances and the safe upkeep and repair of RRC bins.
  • Sustainability & Continuous Improvement: Drive improvements in transport performance and fleet sustainability, ensuring compliance with DVS, ULEZ and the London Lorry Control Scheme, while supporting carbon reduction targets and LondonEnergy’s carbon-neutral strategy.

Requirements

  • Transport Management Experience: Proven experience managing transport operations, including the day-to-day leadership of drivers, fleet vehicles and a multi-level operational team.
  • Essential Qualifications: Holder of a Transport Manager Certificate of Professional Competence (CPC), with a thorough understanding of transport legislation and operator licensing requirements.
  • Fleet & Regulatory Knowledge: Strong knowledge of fleet compliance, vehicle maintenance, driver regulations, tachographs and relevant industry standards, with an understanding of FORS accreditation and preferably FORS Practitioner status.
  • Leadership & Communication: Excellent people management, communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to motivate teams, resolve employee relations issues, coach colleagues and develop future talent.
  • Operational & Financial Management: Strong organisational and problem-solving skills, with the ability to prioritise competing demands, manage budgets, meet deadlines and implement practical operational improvements.
  • Health, Safety & Site Management: Good understanding of health and safety legislation, risk assessments, safe systems of work and site maintenance requirements. IOSH or NEBOSH qualifications would be desirable.
  • Sustainability & Industry Knowledge: Knowledge of carbon reduction initiatives, alternative fuels and electric vehicles. Previous experience in the waste management industry would be desirable, alongside an understanding of environmental and operational compliance requirements.
