Pursuit Engineer II - Geotech Construction

Location Requirement

Candidates must be based in Tennessee.

Company-sponsored travel required: approximately 50% regionally, including customer site visits and industry engagement.

Compensation

Targeted annual compensation range for this position in the United States is $126,000 - $155,000.

The Role

You will work alongside Project Development Engineers to support pursuits for geotechnical projects. This is a development role designed to teach you how GSI pursues work, wins business, and manages client relationships. You will contribute technical analysis, help shape proposals, and build relationships with key players in your market.

You will learn pursuit management, develop technical acumen in geotechnical solutions, and gain hands-on experience in heavy civil and transportation markets. Over time, you will progress toward owning your own accounts and pursuing work independently as a PDE.

Key Responsibilities

Support pursuit execution: assist PDEs in developing pursuit strategy, coordinating with estimating and engineering teams, and building technically credible proposals.

Technical analysis and proposal support: research geotechnical challenges, evaluate solutions, and contribute technical content to client-facing materials.

Client engagement: participate in client meetings, site visits, and follow-ups. Build relationships and learn how different stakeholders make decisions.

Market research and pipeline support: identify and qualify opportunities in the heavy civil and transportation space. Track market activity and competitive positioning.

Industry involvement: attend trade shows, events, and association meetings. Begin building your network in the industry.

Administrative and coordination work: manage pursuit timelines, track deliverables, and ensure smooth communication across internal teams.

Core Competencies

Technical foundation: understand geotechnical design and construction methods well enough to research solutions and contribute to proposals. Willingness to deepen this knowledge.

Relationship building: able to engage professionally with clients and internal teams. Natural at asking good questions and listening to understand needs.

Communication: translate technical concepts into clear language. Write and present well enough to support proposals and client interactions.

Problem solving: enjoy finding solutions to technical challenges. Comfortable asking for help and learning from more experienced team members.

Ownership and initiative: take responsibility for your work. Follow through on commitments and identify what needs to be done without constant direction.

Company representation: You consistently exemplify our Core Values:

  • Deliver Excellence Every Day
  • Break New Ground
  • Win As One
